Eating too much: Babies will vomit if they eat too much, as their stomachs fill, and then their esophagus, and then they vomit. If you are feeding the child more than 2 oz at a feeding decrease it to that level for a few days, then try increasing. If not better, have the child seen. ...Read more

All babies reflux: To get a burp out of a baby you are getting air to reflux from the stomach. All babies also spit up. My baby is 11 weeks old, acid reflux, similac spit up for 5 weeks now. She has been vomiting curdled milk for 2 weeks now. Help!

It's normal: As soon as milk hits the acid in the stomach it curdles and smells terrible, but if your baby is happy, growing and has soft poops she doesn't need any medicine or a change in formula. It is only when babies are in pain from spitting up that we give antacid medicine and unfortunately it does not stop them from spitting up. Sitting her up for a half hour after she eats and burping well does help. ...Read more

My 3 month old is vomiting up all of her food she eats right afterward, its not a little spit up she will only eat two ounce and it all comes back up?

3m vomiting: I agree. More information is needed. How long has it been going on? Is the vomit projectile? Is your child having a fever? Is there a change in the number of wet diapers? These are all important questions to determine the cause. I would recommend taking your baby to the pediatrician or er immediately if there is associated fever, decreased urine output, projectile vomiting, or lethargy. ...Read more

OK, but not repeated: It's very common for people to have some bleeding after vomiting forcefully. The esophagus is irritated and bleeds. Fortunately, it is a constrictor muscle, so it stops its own bleeding. For this to happen once or twice is not harmful. However, constant irritation of the esophagus can lead to other health problems, so it is not something you want to happen frequently. ...Read more

Baby's weight?: If the baby is well grown and happy, not having pain with his spitups then I would tend to agree with your pediatrician! I don't mind the smell, if it has made it to the stomach it will naturally have that acidic smell. ...Read more

A cold: Babies do not eat as well when they have a cold. They cannot breathe through stuffy noses so cannot eat well. They also lose their appetites when ill. When a baby has RSV they can develop reflux. As long as your baby is happy, taking in enough fluids, and is breathing well you can wait this out. A few drops saline will help nasal stuffiness. Call Pediatrician if any worsening. ...Read more

After I eat a meal I have regurgitation. It isn't vomit but like spit up. Happens pretty fast after I eat. I have acid reflux. Is that what this is?

Yes: regurgitation is a fairly common symptom of acid reflux. Looking through your medicine list, I see no reflux medicines currently. I would recommend that you adopt anti-reflux measures, including avoiding foods which bring on your symptoms, caffeine, alcohol, and chocolate. Consider tilting your bed. You should see your doctor to begin anti-reflux medication. Good luck. ...Read more

Reflux re evaluation: There is still a possibility for the reflux to continue. Symptoms include pain during or after eating, vomiting, spitting up. Aspiration of stomach contents into the airway may cause cough, respiratory illness and congestion for example. As she gains weight, the dose may need to be adjusted. My daughter is 6 months old and she keeps spitting up her formula after she drinks it, mostly 1-2 hours after. It comes up like spit up but smells like vomit?

She may be having: something called gastroesophageal reflux, which occurs when the valve between the stomach and the esophagus is a little floppy and allows some formula to come back up.Most babies outgrow this eventually and if she is thriving would not need treatment. If the formula is new to her, it could be a formula intolerance. You should discuss this further with her own pediatrician and have her examined there. ...Read more

Specialty formula: Alimentum is a specialty formula used in infants with digestive difficulties. If your doc recommended alimentum due to a problem that your daughter has, contact that doctor right away for further care & advice. If you selected alimentum on your own, it may just be that any change at all is upsetting her. For now, switch back to breast until you can discuss in detail with her pediatrician. ...Read more
