Baby Spit Up Smells Like Vomit
My daughter is 6 months old and she keeps spitting up her formula after she drinks it, mostly 1-2 hours after. It comes up like spit up but smells like vomit?
She may be having: Something called gastroesophageal reflux, which occurs when the valve between the stomach and the esophagus is a little floppy and allows some formula to come back up. Most babies outgrow this eventually and if she is thriving would not need treatment. If the formula is new to her, it could be a formula intolerance. You should discuss this further with her own pediatrician and have her examined there. ...Read more

However, they don't usually cause an odd smell unless you are having problems with the liver as well.... A bladder infection can also lead to the same symptoms. Get seen soon, and they will likely check your urine and blood after talking to you and examining you. ...Read more

Spoiled milk: Once you mix powder formula it is good for about 2 hours at room temperature and 4 hours in the fridge. When the baby's milk mixes with the stomach enzymes and acid and then comes back up it may appear curdled or have a sour smell. This is normal. Sometimes it helps to keep the baby propped up for about 30 minutes after feeds so he/she will not spit up as much. ...Read more

My baby is 11 weeks old, acid reflux, similac spit up for 5 weeks now. She has been vomiting curdled milk for 2 weeks now. Help!
It's normal: As soon as milk hits the acid in the stomach it curdles and smells terrible, but if your baby is happy, growing and has soft poops she doesn't need any medicine or a change in formula. It is only when babies are in pain from spitting up that we give antacid medicine and unfortunately it does not stop them from spitting up. Sitting her up for a half hour after she eats and burping well does help. ...Read more

My 3wk baby pedi told me To put hydrocortisone on her acne. Can this be the cause of constant vomiting and spitting up? Can Colic Calm be too aggressive
No : No, topical hydrocortisone is definitely NOT thr cause of constant vomiting and spitting up. Colic Calm is not a contributor, there is something else going on with your baby. Given this is the weekend and you are concerned about persistent emesis, I would recommend an ER evaluation. We need to get a complete history and physical exam to learn more about the cause of this vomiting. ...Read more

My 10 month old son's stools smelled of vomit after I tried him with baby greek style yogurt. Does this mean he isn't ready for yogurt? I read that this smell in stools can be indicative of celiac disease so it's a little worrying. He is otherwise fine an
Healthy?: If he is healthy otherwise, you need not be concerned. If you don't like the odor of the stool from the yogurt, then you should stop feeding this to him since this is not an essential food. Celiac is related to gluten which is not present in yogurt (unless certain cereal is added). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
