My 3.5 months baby has frequent shiver in right leg and chin, mainly when sleeping. Is this common or should I be worried?
My 3 yr old has a fever of 100.8. She has done nothing but sleep. She doesn't have any cold or flu symptoms. What do I do? She has been shivering. I've been giving her tylenol (acetaminophen).
Fevers for the most part aren't dangerous and are just the body's natural reaction to fighting off an infection. Most of these infections are viral and may be accompanied by runny nose, sore throat, congestion, mild rash, or nothing at all. Since fevers aren't dangerous, we usually treat the fever with Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen just to make the child more comfortable as their body fights the illness. You can also give them a luke-warm water bath to make them more comfortable and make sure they stay hydrated.
"red flags" that we look for with fever to indicate something more serious is going on are:
-fevers that last 5 days or more
-fevers persistently above 104f orally
-a child that acts very sick - very irritable or difficult to wake
-vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to drink, or dehydration
-a purple rash, esp on the legs
-any complaints of pain such as the ear, throat, stomach or a joint
as always, use your judgement. If you think that your child is ill, err on the side of caution and call your child's doctor. ...Read more
I have been waking up out of a deep sleep shivering, very cold, teeth chattering. All my blood work is ok, endo doc says not januvia, any clues?
Uhoh: It is entirely possible that there is some abnormality of the autonomic system. This happens in diabetes. The most common is digestion problems, then blood pressure, then other autonomic processes. One would expect the temperature to vary a lot during the day. Also one would expect dizziness and problems with blood pressure regulation also. ...Read more

Tach during sleep nightly, shaky, shivering, nervous feeling in chest, headache. Wakes me up. Go to emerg, attack over. What doc should I see?
If you had an evaluation in the ER and there was no cardiac problems, I would start with your Primary Care Physician. He/She can screen for metabolic problems that can cause these symptoms.
If they keep happening and your tests are negative, they may be panic attacks which may lead to a Psychiatric referral.
A good therapist may also be able to teach you some techniques to deal with panic attack ...Read more

Help settle: You can't " make" a child eat, sleep or use the potty. Do what dr. Carlin recommended, wipe out baby's mouth after the last feed & put him in his crib in his own room, drowsy but awake at the same time every night. Most healthy infants don't need a middle of the night feed after 6 months, when night waking becomes a learned behavior. American academy of pediatrics has a good book on birth-5. ...Read more
Work your magic.: If you can handle the crying and your baby can self soothe, at around the 4th month of life, giving them love and getting them to bed at an early consistent hour can work wonders. You can leave them to cry (heartbreaking for many) for increasing amounts of time until they get to sleep. An alternative will be to remain with them cribside, gently supporting them, until they fall asleep. ...Read more
