Maybe herpetic virus: If you or someone close to the baby has herpes -- cold sores, etc. Then it is possible that your baby has gotten them. What you described is consistent with a primary (1st time) herpetic infection. Get to the pediatrician asap for diagnosis and any treatment. ...Read more

Rash (Definition)

Most bumps and blotches on a newborn baby are harmless and clear up by themselves. By far the most common skin problem in infants is diaper rash. Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin caused by dampness, urine, or feces. Most babies who wear diapers will have some type of diaper rash. Need exam: Rashes around the eyes need an exam. As you describe a "bubbly" rash, i would recommend an examination to make sure that this isn't a herpes silmplex virus infection, which can be serious around the eye, ; can affect the ocular surface. Treatment with oral antiviral agents and topical medication may be necessary. ...Read more

Baby skin: No, you probably don't want baby bottom skin!! Haha. Keep your skin clean, avoiding harsh soaps (including antibacterial soaps) and chemical irritants. Use SUNSCREEN!! If your skin is dry and irritated, use a good moisturizer regularly- no perfumes or colors. Don't scratch and pick at your skin. See your doctor for a regular check of your skin, especially for any moles, etc. that change. ...Read more

A qualified yes: If you meant atopic dermatitis then the answer is unusual. If you meant contact dermatitis , then the answer is often yes. I suspect that you might have used neosporin (or equivalent) OTC ointment on the wound site and have developed a contact allergy to one of the ingredients (neomycin). Try topical HC cream and stop the antibiotic ointment. If problem persists , see your doctor. ...Read more
