Baby Poop Color Chart
3 months old infant. Recently changed formula from 'novalac' to 'NAN' pooping continuously after every fed. Is it normal?
Common: In infants it is common for them to have a bowel movement after each feed. Most important is to see if the child is behaving and responding well. If baby is sucking well, feeding well, has no vomiting, smiles and is active, there is no cause for concern. But if you remain worried take the baby to a pediatrician to have the baby checked.
Something in pooh: If the baby is growing and thriving there is nothing to worry about. If not these could represent poor absorption of fat and require a visit to your pediatrician. Baby's pooh can look strange and depends on diet. Changes in the look of the pooh is to be expected with introduction to various solid foods around six months.
Colitis?: That usually means an infection of the large intestine. I would see the doctor for stool tests.
Normal: The stool color is provided by the bile from the liver that is adds to fecal debris. It starts out a deep green & changes thru greens to yellows to browns as the germs in the intestines metabolize the bile. Green generally means the stool in question moved through faster or was subject to less change by gut germs.See 1 more doctor answer
Depends on situation: If baby is breast fed they may stool a little smear every feeding or one big crib full once a week. Breast milk is so well digested that it may not leave much behind for poo. If it is soft, the frequency of stooling is not important.Formula babies go more often, generally 1-3 times/day..
Not necessarily: Unless there is reason to test it it will go in the trash. A past history of drug abuse by a mother, protective service surveillance, or babies with withdrawal symptoms would all prompt such a study. Hospitals do make sure babies have had their first poop before going home.
Consult Pediatrician: You did not say how old your baby is. With the symptoms you described I will check with your babies pediatrician, he will be able to tell you what it may be. Hirschsprung disese symptoms usually start after the baby is born and if it is a mild condition it may not show up later. So take your child to the pediatrician.See 2 more doctor answers
Multiple: Some depends on whether the baby is breast fed or bottle fed but most babies stool 1 to 7or 8 times per day. Some can even skip several days> most important is the consistency not the frequency. Babies should have soft to watery stools not hard little balls of stool.
Poop Colors: The color of stool is not usually concerning, as it reflects a lot of things we eat. Dark black, red or white stools are the only colors that are worrisome.See 1 more doctor answer
7 week old breastfed babies poop is bright green and has a unusual smell? Is this normal or should it be cause of concern?
Infants: This is totally normal and you should stop worrying.
Is it normal for twin babies who will be 2 in feb to take off their cloths and dippers and eat their poop and what can I do to prevent this?
Change diapers: Change the diapers more frequently and get them toilet trained.
No: Probably not a problem. Especially if no other concern.
What happens if an infant accidentally gets a small amount of her own poop in her mouth? Do infants have e.coli in their feces?
No problem: All people have E Coli in their feces but it is not a pathogen. An infant getting a small amount of her own stool in her mouth will suffer no consequences.

1 month old, formula feed infant has dark green poop that smells like skunk (sometimes stringy looking)...baby is gassy as well. Is this normal?
Could be: The first thing I would want to make sure is that your child is gaining weight appropriately and thriving. If that is the case, there are numerous things that could be of help, such as different formulas. That decision can be best made with your child's doctor who will know what formula your child is and/or has been on. Good luck.
My 7 wk old baby just started having yellowish, seedy poop. She has had 5 a day for the last 3 days. Is this normal or a concern in formula fed babies?
Perfectly normal: Stools vary in consistency and frequency in this age group!
My baby's poop is a bit orange in color, this started showing up this week when she started taking Tiki tiki drops for babies. Not sure if this is due to the carrot juice based veggie drink she's taking or due to the baby drops... She's doing ok, lively,
Either/ or: Poop color can reflect the undigested food coloring in what you feed them. If you have a good time line and know it is one or the other, you can either stop them or not. I don't think the color of the poo makes any difference if the kid is thriving.
Is it possible that baby rice cereal can cause some type of allergy in some babies? 7 month old baby couldn't poop until I took him off of baby cereal
Constipating foods: You will find that rice cereal, bananas and apple sauce are often constipating foods. It is not an allergic effect. Loosening foods include juices like apple or prune and various fruits like peaches or prunes.
What causes yellow noisy watery poop in breastfed babies? I know its normal but I'm just curious why it's not solid & brown.
Breast milk: Is the ideal food for babies. As such, most of it is absorbed in the GI tract, leaving little left over to form a solid stool. Color is dependant on the type of food ingested, how fast it moves through the intestine and the overall functioning of the gallbladder.
