He awakens because: He's a "trained night feeder." healthy babies over 6 mos. Don't need night feeds, ; are old enough for learned behaviors. If you read to him, feed, brush his teeth or wipe off his gums, then put him to bed drowsy, but awake, he'll learn to self-calm for sleep-onset ; for night-waking.
