My baby is 11 months &still doesn't crawl or get up from laying position to sit .He just sits unsupported perfectly when I do put him is this normal?

Getting to a sit is : on average an 8-month milestone, pulling to a stand, then walking holding onto furniture is usually at 9- 11 months. Your pediatrician will check muscle tone, strength & reflexes & advise you if there is reason for concern.. You can fill out a developmental screen on firstsigns.org to take to the visit. You can also call your state's Early Intervention Program for a developmental assessment. ...Read more

My 3 yr daughter grinds her teeth a lot when she sleeps. Is that normal? She's totally fine and doesn't exhibit any discomfort while sleeping or awake

My 3 yr daughter grinds her teeth a lot when she sleeps. Is that normal? She's totally fine and doesn't exhibit any discomfort while sleeping or awake

Not a big deal: It is not uncommon for little children to grind their teeth in sleep. You should not be worried about it at this time. As long as she does not have any discomfort, she is fine. As she gets older and if she continues with this habit, you may consult a pediatric dentist to see if a night guard would be helpful. It is not practical to make that at such early age as the children won't be compliant. ...Read more

My 7 month baby hasn't crawled yet and also is not sitting unsupported. ..should i be worried. . and also no teeth has come..is her development right?

Relax: Prop sit at 6mo, get to sit by 8-9mo, crawl-pull to stand by 9-12 mo. Some babies creep and waddle prone in the first few months but it is disorganized and not consistent. Some babies have teeth at birth and some not until after 15mo. You might find some good basic information at www.healthychildren.org. ...Read more

2 months old baby falls off bed. Baby seems fine but i'm worried. No bleeding, vomiting, or anything. Baby breastfed and is sleeping. Please advise.?

Should be fine!: Undress and check out all parts of your infant's body for any bumps, bruises or abrasions/deformities. Gently touch all areas to check for tenderness. Likely, you were lucky with this incident and all should be well. Persistent fussy behavior, vomiting, sleeping, or changes in his/her behavior/affect would be halmarks of getting an evaluation sooner than later. ...Read more

Will it affect my 6mth old baby development when he sleeps in d baby carrier for 1-2 hr. Upright position. Will it be too straining on the neck?

Will it affect my 6mth old baby development when he sleeps in d baby carrier for 1-2 hr. Upright position. Will it be too straining on the neck?

No; should be ok: A baby is very flexible, so sleeping 1-2 hours in a baby carrier is no problem, if he is buckled in a good position. Babies who frequently go on long commutes or vacation trips will spend many hours riding in car seats. They don't seem to get neck problems from the car rides. ...Read more

10 week old sometimes avoids eye contact (particularly while being held).
Other times, he coos, smiles n tracks well but mostly while lying down. Help?

Development varies: slightly with each infant, and if he is making good eye contact while lying down, cooing and smiling, it sounds like he is on track. It may be that when he is upright, there are so many more sights to see that his eye contact with you is intermittent, compared to looking at you vs a boring ceiling when lying down. Keep talking and interacting with you baby, but share concerns at next check up. ...Read more

10 month old baby congested from common cold. Won't sleep on flat surface n no swing. Is it safe to use carseat for 1 night next to couch?

10 month old baby congested from common cold. Won't sleep on flat surface n no swing. Is it safe to use carseat for 1 night next to couch?

It does have risks.: The academy of pediatrics recommends a flat surface to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (sids). A more important aspect of helping the child sleep would be nasal saline drops and suction 2 or 3 times per day, but not more frequently than this. Certainly children can sleep in a car seat for prolonged periods without issue, but there is a higher chance of sids which must be considered. ...Read more
