Fundal height is 4 weeks more than my due date but baby measuring 2 weeks smaller than my due date, what does this mean?

It means little: Fundal height generally approximates but does not always correlate to the actual gestational age. The measurement that you describe, I am assuming, is an ultrasound that is also an approximation. ...Read more

Is it true that only 4 percent of babies are born on their due date?

Is it true that only 4 percent of babies are born on their due date?

Little higher: It actually used to be closer to 10%, but with more scheduled inductions and C-sections at around 39 weeks, the actual number has dropped below that 10%. I doubt it has dropped as low as 4% though. I certainly have not seen a number that low yet, but I'm sure it's headed that way. ...Read more

I am 2 days past my due date n want to drink to help with pain.will it show up in my babies n my system?

Better pain treatmen: There are better pain treatments than feeling the need to drink alcohol to make the pain go away. You could try exercise, yoga or any other treatments your doctor would recommend. To answer your question, alcohol would show up in your bloodstream for a few hrs after ingesting. ...Read more

At 30 weeks baby is measuring 2 weeks behind in belly, femur, and head ! Is my due date wrong or am I just having a small baby ?

Detailed evaluation: It would be inappropriate for us to answer this without more detail. Schedule a follow up visit with the doctor providing your prenatal care. They can go through the ultrasound findings in detail with you to design a care plan that is right for you. They can also suggest a maternal fetal medicine consultation if that is indicated. ...Read more

Ultrasound at 32 weeks. Due date was Sept 12th and changed to Sept 10th. Does this mean I conceived earlier or is it based off babies measurements?

Ultrasound at 32 weeks. Due date was Sept 12th and changed to Sept 10th. Does this mean I conceived earlier or is it based off babies measurements?

Measurements: Your first due date was likely based on your last period or some very early ultrasound measurements. Both are fairly inaccurate. As you progressed, your due date was refined based on later measurements. Remember, though, doctors (like anyone) are not great at predicting the future. Only about 5% of babies are born on their due date. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Besides an incorrectly calculated due date, what does it mean if I am measuring small?

Besides an incorrectly calculated due date, what does it mean if I am measuring small?

What did your OB say: Either the measurement is incorrect or the baby is small for dates or u do not have enough amniotic fluid, or the baby could be fine, your OB can order an ultrasound that would be the standard of care so u know for certain ! measuring is just a rough estimate. ...Read more

Dr told me on 4/24 that my baby was measuring 7w/5d fetal age fr the u/s and gave me a DD of 12/7. Shouldn't my due date be 30w/1d fr 4/24?

Calculating length: 40 weeks is the length attributed to pregnancy. This is'counted' from the first day of your last menstrual period. If you were 7 and 5/7 on 4/24 then 30 and1/7 makes you just shy of 38 weeks, not 40 weeks. ...Read more

If a baby is measuring 4 days bigger on an ultrasound but the doctor didn't change the due date what does that mean?

If a baby is measuring 4 days bigger on an ultrasound but the doctor didn't change the due date what does that mean?

No need: The measurement error of 1st trimester us is within +/- 4-5 days, so being 4 days different from the calculated date doesn't really mean anything. The calculated date or the us date could be the due date. ...Read more

I found out at 14 weeks that my due date is july 17 i was told at 21 weeks around the same date.Could my due date be a month off if the baby is small?

I found out at 14 weeks that my due date is july 17 i was told at 21 weeks around the same date.Could my due date be a month off if the baby is small?

No.: Your due date was established on your original ultrasound at 14 weeks with great accuracy (+/-7 days). If the fetal growth is poor using that due date, you need to see a maternal-fetal medicine specialist asap to help you figure out why and what (if anything) can be done (genetic, placental, infectious etiologies among others). Take Folic Acid 1-5 mg daily, avoid all exercise and best of luck! ...Read more

Besides the apgar score, what determines a premature baby if the due date was in question, or if the baby was just small (5.5 lb baby at 35.5 weeks)?

What do you suggest if my doctor said b/c my baby was small at my 21 week ultrasound, my due date changed from may 31 to june 16. are they right?

Ultrasound dating: First trimester ultrasound is accurate within 5-7 days. Lmp dating also assumes a 28 day cycle. Due date is based on lmp unless us off by more than 1 week 1st trimester or 2 weeks in 2nd. And it's only an estimate; the baby will decide when to come regardless of what you or your doctor think :). ...Read more

My doctor diagnosed me with IUGR but everything looks fine and I've only gained 15 lbs and im 33 weeks ! Am I having a small baby or wrong due date ?

Small baby: The diagnosis of IUGR is not just based on size but its more of the rate that the baby is growing. IF the baby is small, or its rate of growth is slower than expected then the fetus is assumed to have IUGR. There are multiple reasons for IUGR and its important to treat if possible or to be prepared for what the baby may be at risk once born, although most are born without any issue. ...Read more
