Baby Growth Chart Head Circumference
A growth chart is used by pediatricians to follow a child's growth over time. Growth charts have been constructed by observing the growth of large numbers of normal children over time. The height, weight, and head circumference of a child can be compared to the expected parameters of children of the same age and sex to determine whether the ...Read more
Relative study: His rating means that 10% of infants at this age have a larger head circumference (size) while 90% are smaller. If the size has increased from 25-50-75-90% over several months it would suggest growth was too rapid. If usually in that range, it just means the kid has a big head.It hasn't bothered me any, except for having trouble finding a helmet/hat that would fit.. ...Read more
Head measurement: Was your child premature? If so there is a correction that can be made to more accurately determine appropriateness of head size. Was your baby small for gestational age? Has the head circumference been growing at a rate parallel to the isobars on the head circimference chart, wven though it may be below the 5th percentile. Speak to your pediatrician about these issues. ...Read more
10 week old baby length and weight both 85th percentile. Head circumference 95th percentile. Does this mean he has a big head in proportion to body?
Not really: I don't consider that difference worth anything more than noting. Big babies are big all over and this falls within the normal variation of such measurements. If the kid was 50% weight/length and 95% head, I would just measure the parents head to see where baby inherited it from. There are other issues to consider with a big head, but not from the reported info. ...Read more
Hope so: I suppose you mean inches in circumference. This is is on the larger size for an adult, but since mine is bigger, i think it is fine. It does make finding head gear that fits a bit harder. It would be a bit off the chart for a 3 year old. ...Read more
Hi my 9 week old sons head circumference measures 16 inches he weighs 11pounds 8ounces, is that in the normal range for head measurement.
Head circumference: A head circumference of 16 inches at 9 weeks places him at the 95% for his age and sex. This is considered normal. I don't have a height, but his weight is about the 85%, so it seems from that he is generally a big boy. The more important factor, however, is interval growth from visit to visit. If he's always been at the 25% and suddenly is at 95%, that's more concerning than if he is always 95%. ...Read more
My baby is in 75% percentile height and 25percentile weight.6 month old boy.17 lb at and 27.5 inch height.is it normal?
Tough word - normal: Being thin and tall is perfectly fine if the child is growing along their growth curves normally. Make sure your pediatrician or FP doctor is measuring height and weight and plotting them on a growth curve. If the baby odd changing percentiles over time, you may need to intervene with nutritional or medical help. Check with your doctor on this ! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
17 wk old niece head circumference is on 99th percentile.50th percentile for height and weight. Is this a problem? Her mother has quite a large head.
Probably fine: It's fine for an infant to have a large head, as long as it stays at a fairly constant percentile. It's only when heads grow or shrink too quickly that the child should be evaluated further. Make sure to talk with ur baby's pediatrician if u r concerned. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My daughter 16 days old, her head size 31.5cm. Is it microcephaly?
(my wife 21years old, her head size 53cm, its smaller than other same age girls).
My 3 month old girl has a head circumference of 38.5 CM ..at birth she measured 34cms.m worried abt her low growth ..is she ok?
Within normal range: Both of these measurements are within the normal range and by themselves are not notable.Measurements of head circumference at this age is inconsistent from one observer to another. Head growth is better followed with serial measurements, done with the same technique and monitored over time. Two measurements will not establish a pattern while 3 or more likely give more information.Time will tell ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Any significance of head circumference 19 percentile at birth and 89 percentile at 8 years? Child does have level 1 autism diagnosis.
Depends: By definition, at least 3% of the normal population will grow along the smallest portion of the regular growth scales. Consistent growth along that or any percentile is not necessarily a failure to thrive. However;infants starting at the 25% & moving down to the 10% months later & heading toward the 5% in such measurements would be considered ftt because if the drop in growth rate. ...Read more
Daughter's 7yo, overweight. Since baby 95-97centile weight&height. Gained 7cm (2 3/4 in)/1 year, but droped 2 cent in height. Is it a growth spurt?
See a doctor: If you have access, you may want to see a pediatric endocrinologist to make sure that there are no underlying hormonal reasons for these changes your daughter's been going through. ...Read more
Depends: If it has changed from the 10% to the 97% since birth, I would be more concerned than if it was big all along. If his height and weight are on the larger side it would be more consistent with a normal variant. It didn't bother me much in life, except when looking for a helmet that would fit. ...Read more
