Depends on gender ;: Velocity of growth. Has the head circumference grown normally along a single curve between 5th-95th%ile or increased too rapidly, e.g., jumping from 25th to 95th %ile (as may be seen in autism or hydrocephalus), or too slowly, e.g., dropping from 25th to 5th%ile, (indicating insufficient brain growth)?Girls' range at 9 months is 41.6-46.6 cm; avg. A growth chart is used by pediatricians to follow a child's growth over time. Growth charts have been constructed by observing the growth of large numbers of normal children over time. The height, weight, and head circumference of a child can be compared to the expected parameters of children of the same age and sex to determine whether the ...Read more
Relative study: His rating means that 10% of infants at this age have a larger head circumference (size) while 90% are smaller. If the size has increased from 25-50-75-90% over several months it would suggest growth was too rapid. If usually in that range, it just means the kid has a big head.It hasn't bothered me any, except for having trouble finding a helmet/hat that would fit.. ...Read more
9.7 mnth old has a head circum. of 44cm,47.3% range on growth chart. Is this normal? She babbles, crawls, pulls self up.Not much change from 6mnth appt.
Missing information: Head circumference is normal, near average, but we need the velocity of its growth. Head growth slows normally after 6 mos., but should plot along or near the same growth curve it's always followed. Strings of babbling at 6 mos. become non-specific " da-da, ma-ma" in 9th mo. Gross motor is good. Screens are on firstsigns.org. Follow-up with pede. & MS Early Intervention Program if concerned. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Speak to baby's doc: That is a rapid rate of growth in 3 months. The usual rate is 1 cm per month for the first 6 months. Was your baby small for gestational age? This condition can be associated with rapid "catch up growth" In some cases, familial macrocephaly accounts. Speak to your pediatrician and ask to see the head circumference chart, so you can understand what is happening. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I m concerned for baby head growth. She is 18 days old.Born with 37 CM head circumference today 40 cm.is that normal.
Large head: 40 cm at 18 days is large. IF there is no bulging of the fontanelle, the difference may be due to molding durign the delivery. Was this a large baby? Is there a family history of large heads. If there is any concern, speak to your pediatrician andi f necessary have an ultrasound done. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 3 month old girl has a head circumference of 38.5 CM ..at birth she measured 34cms.m worried abt her low growth ..is she ok?
Within normal range: Both of these measurements are within the normal range and by themselves are not notable.Measurements of head circumference at this age is inconsistent from one observer to another. Head growth is better followed with serial measurements, done with the same technique and monitored over time. Two measurements will not establish a pattern while 3 or more likely give more information.Time will tell ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Depends: This would be at the high end of normal for a male infant & usually paired with a length of 67 cm. You can download a growth chart from the cdc website & plot known measures to follow the child's pattern. www.cdc.gov/growthcharts if your kid is shorter or the head size is increasing faster than his length, it is unusual. If this is a girl the head is too big. ...Read more
So far, just enough: To have close monitoring by her pediatrician. That is in the above 90% range but checking for other sign and progress is the correct action to take. I hope everything else seems okay so that this can be explained and/or addressed easily. Don't worry - just have a good full exam done. Best wishes to you and yours! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What does it mean if a baby's head circumference percentile drops from 90 to 75 at 5.5 months? Does it indicate intelligence levels?
Head size: My first thought is technique and is a measuring error. That's the most likely. I would get it measured again and monitor it over the next few weeks to see if it is real or to watch the trend. Premature closure of the soft spot is a possibility which is fixable. Lower IQ would be unlikely. Talk to your doctor and let him know your concern and work together. ...Read more

My baby girl's head circumference only grew by 1cm in 2 MONTHS, From birth (34.5 cm) to 2 months (35.5). Based on the head chart, she's way behind. ?
Head circumference: This does seem like slow growth. Sometimes there is moulding of the scalp which alters the head circumference and sometimes it may be difficult to get an accurate measurement. Was your baby a full term baby? Are the other measurements, her weight and her height OK? Parents heads should be measured as well. Ask for a referral to see a Pediatrician or Pediatric neurologist to help sort this out. ...Read more
My 5.5months old baby had hie when born. His head circumference is always in 25th percentile, are there any chances for him to develope microcephaly?
Difficult ?: I assume you mean hypoxia ischemic encephalopathy . If his head circumpherence is 25th% and stays on that curve that is good news for baby. The brain continues to grow and develop for 2 years so it is very hard to know if baby will have damage or not. Baby should be watched carefully and help given if does not develop normally. Mris may help to follow. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
