GERD: Frequent spitting-up in young infants are most often caused by gastroesophageal reflux (GER). The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
When can babies move to fformula as 3 week grandaughter is hungry baby and wakes regularly for feeds?
My month old baby keeps throwing up after every feeding. What could be wrong? Breastfeed during the day, 2 bottles of 2oz newborn formula at night.
Esophageal Reflux: Or gastro-esophageal reflux disease. Occurs when lower esophageal sphincter is loose, doesn't close, stomach content comes up as vomiting. Make sure, when feeding, head 45 degree upright, a good seal while nursing, no gap, so that baby doesn't swallow air. Burp up halfway and after feeding, keep baby upright for 1/2 hour. If not better, anytime projectile vomit, poor wt. Gain, see doc asap. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Joelle is13days old. She has gas problem and does sleep properly. She cries in the night. She is given breast feeding during day and formula milk duri?
See your doctor: Many infants have some gas problems...First i suggest stopping all dairy as that can cause gas..That means no dairy - milk cheese yogurt for a breast feeding mom and i would supplement with nutramigen instead of a dairy based formula. Sometimes probiotics can help as well...Like culturelle baby. Craniosacral therapy and chiropractic care can also help alleviate symptoms...Hope this helps. ...Read more
My3weeks old daugther cries during brestfeeding(she drinks 5-6 times and cries than again).I use nipple shield. She has several bowel movements per day?
See her doctor: Check with her doctor to make sure there is no physical problem causing this. A common cause is nasal obstruction or congestion which doesn't allow the baby to breathe well while breast feeding. If you hear mucous in her nose, use saline nose drops and a bulb suction to remove it. Also, make sure that your breast tissue is pulled back so she can breathe while nursing. ...Read more
My 6wk old baby fusses all night & sleeps daytime & often needs waking up 4 hourly during the day but hardly sleeps at night. Normal? Formula fed baby
Flipped pattern: This is common to parents who believe they should let baby sleep during the day if they had a bad night. Babies are pattern creatures and this continues until you stop it. Try waking every hour during the day for a minimum of five minutes and leaving alone at night, the pattern should reset within a week. ...Read more
A 30 days old child, each time after feeding she sleeps and during her sleep she throw out some milk but sometimes she chokes with them. Any solution?
Pediatrician: Can check to determine if she is having reflux. That is when the ability to move formula through the stomach and on is slow or there is a tendency for it to come back up into the esophagus from the stomach. Choking can occur when the refluxed formula enters the upper airway. You should bring her to her doctor to have her checked and if this is the case her doctor will recommend actions to limit the reflux of milk. These may include thickening her formula if she is bottle fed, giving an antacid, having her in an upright position after feeding for a period of time and possibly changing her formula if it is determined that she is having an intolerance to it. My three month old baby is vomiting lot. Each time after feed and often. And each time she burps she coughs little. And cries lot. I am worried.?
No: Stooling patterns for infants are very different from adults. Some newborns poop after every feed (yes that can mean 8 times a day!). Some breastfed babies, however, absorb all the nutrients in the milk and can go up to a week without a poopey diaper. As long as your baby is gaining weight well, his stool is soft, there's no blood in the diaper and the stool isn't a white color its probably ok. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
12 week old only breast fed baby has 6-7 diarrhea/mucus bowel movements and eats every 2hrs day and night, fussy every evening and refuses to eat.
10 month old having cough, cold and fever(37.3-37.5) for 3 days is fussy during feeding times. How can i feed him.
Clear liquids: Make sure to give him lots of clear fluids (water, Pedialyte) to keep him hydrated. You can give it with a bottle, cup or even spoon, if necessary. Don't worry too much if he isn't eating well- the important thing is the fluids. That will help with the fever and loosen his mucous as well. Use bulb and saline drops to suction his nose. Call the doctor if he's not better. ...Read more

My 7 months baby wakes up at night couple of times. We feed him and he sleeps. Does he wake up bcoz he is hungry? Or are we overfeeding him?
He awakens because: He's a "trained night feeder." healthy babies over 6 mos. Don't need night feeds, ; are old enough for learned behaviors. If you read to him, feed, brush his teeth or wipe off his gums, then put him to bed drowsy, but awake, he'll learn to self-calm for sleep-onset ; for night-waking. If you consistently ignore night-crying. It increases at first, then stops. See healthychildren.Org for tips. ...Read more
My wife spoon feeds milk to our 15 months baby during night when he is asleep. Is it safe? Also she feeds him every 4 hours be its day or night, safe?
Potentially harmful: Potential harms are development of dental caries with night feeds and obesity from overfeeding. A neurotypical child that age can both finger-feed himself & use a spoon, spilling little. Not allowing him to do so hampers development of independent self-help skills. First you & your wife together need to hear what his pede has to say. Try to state the problem without shame or blame. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
