Can we asses the baby gender by ultra sound measurements. Attached is a file with my 21weeks report?

Illegal in India: Prenatal sex determination was banned in india in 1994, under the pre-conception and prenatal diagnostic techniques (prohibition of sex selection) act.[4] the act aims to prevent sex-selective abortion, which, according to the indian ministry of health and family welfare, "has its roots in india’s long history of strong patriarchal influence in all spheres of life". ...Read more

Our ultrasound tech told us the baby was a boy but wrote on the picture that the baby is a girl. If we send you the picture could you tell us the gend?

Better not: US determination of baby's gender is at times subjective and depends on many factors: resolution, gestational age, technique, etc. so kindly ask your doctor for another exam, or simply wait and repeat later when the baby grows more, wishing you a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby ...Read more

What is the normal testicle size of a adult in CM ?Husbands left testicle length 2.99 width 1.7 depth. 1.9 right length 3.4 width 1.9 depth 1.9.

What is the normal testicle size of a adult in CM ?Husbands left testicle length 2.99 width 1.7 depth. 1.9 right length 3.4 width 1.9 depth 1.9.

Should consult a urologist if testes enlarged after puberty, in case he has a testicular malignancy. Benign enlargement ?Due to hydrocele fluid. ...Read more

Is The show "Grey's Anatomy" Accurate on their medical information? How about "House"?

Not very, House more: I have hardly seen Grey's Anatomy but from all accounts it has many inaccuracies, both in portraying what residency training is like and medical details- see http://tinyurl.com/hgkp9dp and http://tinyurl.com/hdtqdde House (which I have seen) is more accurate but also not too realistic in many ways and also has inaccuracies. See http://tinyurl.com/jlarw for an analysis of each episode by a doctor! ...Read more

U/s on 1/20/14 gave measurement of 11w4d measuring the fetus at 4.8 cm. Could 11/25/13 be conception date? What is the accurate conception date?

U/s on 1/20/14 gave measurement of 11w4d measuring the fetus at 4.8 cm. Could 11/25/13 be conception date? What is the accurate conception date?

11/14/13: Based on the information you provided, the 'average' date of conception would be appx 11/14/13. While 11/25 could be the conception date, it's highly unlikely. Most first trimester ultrasounds are the most accurate ultrasound we have for dating a pregnancy. Typically standard deviation of error is +/- 5 days. Which would be as early as 11/9 or as late as 11/19. Thus, 11/25 is an outlier. ...Read more

Head circumference. : As long as the head circumference is tracking along the same percentile and with normal developmental progress, all that is needed is close followup with your child's PCP. Based on the information you provided, the head circumference is on the upper end of normal (~98th percentile). A family history of individuals with large heads, if present, make the head circumference stats less concerning. ...Read more

What percentage of 70 year olds have their natural teeth? 50%? What determines if a person avoids dentures? Does stress make a person lose his/her teeth?

What percentage of 70 year olds have their natural teeth? 50%? What determines if a person avoids dentures? Does stress make a person lose his/her teeth?

In : In many instances, excess stress can cause someone to grind and clench their teeth. The excess forces, over time, can cause the teeth to wear away, resulting in chipping and breakage. Long term grinding is also associated with bone loss around the affected teeth and problems with the temporomandibular joint (tmj pain). Bone loss generally occurs over a long period of time and can be minimized or prevented with a bruxism appliance. The appliance does not stop you from grinding, but rather absorbs the excess forces and deflects those grinding forces away from your teeth. So yes, in certain circumstances, stress can be a factor in premature tooth loss. ...Read more

Does having a "large frame" mean that their skeleton weighs more than someone with a small frame?

One way to put it: That is a very succinct way of stating it. Typically you will notice larger overall bone structure if not general size as well. Think of a small dog like a yorkshire terrier compared to a st. Bernard. Look at wrist size, shoulder and hip width, etc. ...Read more

Because wrist size changes with weight change, does that mean it isn't an accurate indicator of body frame size?

Because wrist size changes with weight change, does that mean it isn't an accurate indicator of body frame size?

Doesn't change much: Dr. Pool's reply was correct. Wrist size is used for this purpose because it does NOT change much with weight change, except for very slim and very obese persons. For most people, it's a fairly accurate indicator regardless of body weight. Not perfect, but a good general guide. ...Read more
