BABY FALL: How old is your baby? Approximately how far was the fall? How is baby acting now? If no visible signs of trauma to head, face, neck chest, belly, etc; AND baby is acting COMPLETELY NORMAL; there is likely no problem. If there is ANY trauma or you simply have uneasiness or need peace-of-mind; contact your baby's doctor or go to an emergency department. ...Read more

My 6 month old baby fell off bed (3ft) head first and bumped her head on the metal frame and has a bump on the topfront part of her head. Take her in?

My 6 month old baby fell off bed (3ft) head first and bumped her head on the metal frame and has a bump on the topfront part of her head. Take her in?

Not necessarily: You need to observe the baby. If she cried initially but could be consoled and is now active and interested in her surroundings, as well as able to tolerate formula, you can watch her for worrisome signs, such as the soft spot bulging, frequent episodes of vomiting, unequal size of her pupils as well as protracted crying or difficulty arousing her. Such behaviors require emergent evaluation. ...Read more

16 mo Baby fell off bed backwards onto back and back of head about 30 inch fall. All seems well but should I be concerned about retinal detachments?

Not likely: It's very unlikely to see a retinal detachment in that scenario, but I'm concerned about your child. That is a pretty big fall and could cause other issues. At the very least, have your toddler checked out by your pediatrician. I hope all is well. ...Read more

Baby fell off bed 3ft no side effects perfectly mobile no swelling of the head no dilated pupils, but I feel horrible what else should I do/ check?

Baby fell off bed 3ft no side effects perfectly mobile no swelling of the head no dilated pupils, but I feel horrible what else should I do/ check?

Impact surface??: A fall into a thick padded carpet is less worrisome than a wooden floor or hard object. An infant that was not knocked out, but cried quickly & then settled may be ok. If soft spot is still open, a soft one is a good sign but a hard or bulging one is cause for worry. Any sunken in place in the skull should be evaluated. At the very least call babied doc & discuss what happened. ...Read more

My baby fell from the bed and may have hit her head, how will I know she is fine?

My baby fell from the bed and may have hit her head, how will I know she is fine?

Head Injuries: If she is vomiting she needs to be seen urgently. If she is not vomiting she needs close attention for 24 hours. If she falls asleep this is fine, but is she easily aroused from sleep? I would have you check that every couple of hours during her sleep to make sure she can be aroused. After 24 hours the risks nearly all go away. ...Read more

My 7 month old baby fell off the bed, I'm really scared is there any way he could get a life threating illness from this?

Exam: The height of the bed and the surface he fell onto might help to determine a type of injury. Most babies with type of fall have no serious injuries, but an exam will help put your mind at ease. Definitely if you notice and pain, swelling or other abnormal response, he should be checked immediately. All the best. ...Read more

My baby fell down the bed on his head. And a small swallow appeared on his head. But he didn't sleep or vomit. Is it dangerous? What should I do plz help

Fall in child: The criteria to look for is what type of floor, tile/ marble-stone, or carpet, how far was the fall 6 inches or > 30 inches, how old is child. How is child behaving normal or sleepy. Was there loss of consciousness- even for a second? I am not sure what "swallow" is, if a depression in the skull definitely check it out. How do I get my babies hair to stop thinning. And falling out?? Even though its normal what is a way I can make it not happen.!! Help

Hair loss in infant: It is normal for babies to lose some or all of their hair, and this is not safely preventable unless another underlying cause (such as severe seborrhea capitus or fungal infections) is present and not addressed. Hair growth returns in a few weeks to months, not to worry. ...Read more

My two year old was running along the side of his brother when he fell off of his bike it somehow caught my babies leg and gave him a tire burn? Help

Mgt: If the abrasion is superficial it should heal without any complication in one week. I would advise watching for any swelling, signs of infection, such as drainage and for any change in her activity/walking/running pattern.
In the meantime, please keep the area clean and dry, and a thin layer of antibiotic ointment can help the healing process, when applied three times daily. ...Read more

My babies umbilical cord fell off today (baby is 1 Week Old). Do I put anything on it to help it heal faster?? The belly button is also outie.

Not necessarily: The umbilical stump is made to fall off - after it does there is often very little needed to facilitate it completing its healing. You can use a small drop of liquid soap (not antibacterial) to aid in the remainder drying out - but if you do nothing it will likely be just fine! If it is not healed by the 2 week visit - your provider will take care of the rest. ...Read more

I'm 35w pregnant and my 21m old fell on what I think is my babies head. Could he harm her in there and cause any brain damage to her?

Unlikely: Think of a watermelon in a pool. It bounces around in the water & any direct hit would push it out of the way. Same thing happens in your womb. Babies head is surrounded by water & flexible tissues. Car crash=bad injury but kid bumping yo=not so much. ...Read more

A 4-5 fold overdose: ...Of Ibuprofen will at worst cause her to throw up, but this is valid only if you are sure there wasn't more Ibuprofen than that in the bottle. Also this is a wake-up call - next time she might get into something more dangerous.
