You might worry if your baby isn't feeding because she doesn't seem to feel good, is lethargic, or has fever or trouble breathing. If she looks and acts healthy, it may be a temporary slowdown in her growth. She may be eating more per feed, too. ...Read more

Baby feeding should be how many once and how much?

Will my pain medication after birth affect my babies feeding?

Will my pain medication after birth affect my babies feeding?

Depends: Most prescribed or recommended by an experienced OB will have little effect on baby. Even those with some hydrocodone will not pass into the milk in enough quantity to bother baby if used cautiously. Some sedation would be expected if you use the maximum amount prescribed. Is it alright for small babies to feed on goat milk , if they are not being breast fed?

Is it alright for small babies to feed on goat milk , if they are not being breast fed?

Not necessarily: Goat milk is deficient in many of the nutrients that human infants need for proper growth and development. Folate (folic acid) is one of the items it lacks & some commercial goat milks have added this to their product to improve if for human consumption. When are you able to feed baby food to babies?

Delay until 6mo: Solid foods were once used to make up for deficiencies in home made milk formula used in the 50's to 80's.A return to breast FDG & modern formulas changed the value of solids from nutrition, to a pathway to teach baby to eat & transition to table foods.Waiting until 6m allows baby to sit & participate in a feeding, much as the will when older.Start with a few tablespoons as a paste. ...Read more

What age do you start feeding babies baby food?

What age do you start feeding babies baby food?

I wait until sitting: Studies of various populations show that breast milk alone supplies balanced nutrition for the first year +. Most early solid feeding pressure comes from the days babies were fed home made blends of boiled cow milk/karo & vitamins. At the time early supplements made sense, now they are overdone.Starting should focus on training baby to sit up & eat in preparation for his/her position at the table. ...Read more

Is it safe to feed babies with mashed veggies on their 5th month?

Is it safe to feed babies with mashed veggies on their 5th month?

Safe by why start: Breast milk or formula provide balanced nutrition for infants for the first year of life. Supplements do not improve infant nutrition.50 years ago they were introduced early because people made a crude & incomplete formula from evaporated milk (great for calf's not kids).Today we use solids to introduce texture & a new feeding skill. Six months is the recommended age. ...Read more

Is it typical for iugr babies to have feeding issues... 6 mth has never taken more than 3ozs at a time he seems to get full easy. What could be issue?

Sounds normal: Yes, iugr babies can fave feeding issues, but it is probably not contributing to problems 6 months from delivery. If your child is growing appropriately by weight, length, and head circumference, than there is nothing to worry about. If not, you should consult your pediatrician. If growing well, just be grateful that your child has a healthy "full button" and will avoid over-eating. ...Read more
