What does it mean when the baby drops? I heard that this is a sign that labor has started, but what does it mean?

Your : Your fetus’s head tends to hang out in the upper part of the pelvis until the baby gets close to labor, at which point, the fetal head drops into the lower part of the pelvis. The doctor or midwife can feel this on external exam, because the head is no longer wobbling around above the fetal bone but has dropped down below it. It can also be assessed on pelvic exam as “station, ” meaning how far down the baby has dropped. You may also be able to tell if the baby has dropped because your belly may change shape.

So what does it mean if the baby drops? Usually it means the baby is getting ready for labor, but the amount of time between when the baby drops and when labor begins varies. If the baby drops prematurely, you may be put on bed rest, but that still doesn’t mean labor is inevitable. However, when the baby drops at full term, in combination with painful contractions that become regular or a broken water bag, the time is coming. Keep in mind that mothers who have given birth many times may go into labor without having the baby drop until the cervix is almost fully dilated. But if the baby drops and it’s your first, it’s a good sign that the time to meet your baby is approaching. ...Read more

I'm 37 weeks pregnant having a lot of back pain and short sharp pains in abdomen baby dropped last week could I be going into labor?

It's possible: Braxton Hicks contractions are "false" labor, which is when the muscle fibers of the uterus begin practicing for the real deal. It's annoying for sure, but also reassuring that your body is just getting ready. Make sure you're following up with your care provider for exams to confirm. ...Read more

My baby's poop is a bit orange in color, this started showing up this week when she started taking Tiki tiki drops for babies. Not sure if this is due to the carrot juice based veggie drink she's taking or due to the baby drops... She's doing ok, lively,

My baby's poop is a bit orange in color, this started showing up this week when she started taking Tiki tiki drops for babies. Not sure if this is due to the carrot juice based veggie drink she's taking or due to the baby drops... She's doing ok, lively,

Either/ or: Poop color can reflect the undigested food coloring in what you feed them.If you have a good time line and know it is one or the other, you can either stop them or not. I don't think the color of the poo makes any difference if the kid is thriving. ...Read more

What happens if the temperature of a newborn baby drops suddenly?

What happens if the temperature of a newborn baby drops suddenly?

Temperature: this is not a common occurrence. But also depends on what you mean by "drop suddenly". And how the temp is being measured.

What happens if baby drops from fetal growth percentile in 4 weeks but is still within the 10 and 90%? Is that a reason for concern?

No concern: The ultrasound measurements can vary from one test to the next. In the last month or two of pregnancy, ultrasound "guesses" about baby's size and weight can be off by quite a bit. It is not perfect technology. As long as the baby does not drop below the 10th percentile it should be fine. It sounds like you are being followed closely, which is good. Good luck. ...Read more

I am 36 weeks. Ultrasound showed 6lbs1oz. My fundal height is measuring behind at 35 cm. It's been perfect until now. Is this normal when baby drops?

Confused a med with ambroxol with baby drops for eye and put the med on her eye baby cried alot, will it damage her eye?
And it sure burns i tried.

It Can: Direct contact of ambroxol with the eye may cause transient discomfort characterised by tearing or conjunctival redness. Slight abrasive damage may also result, so i would recommend seeing an ophthalmologist. Also, there may be other chemicals in the medication that could irritate or damage the eye. Take the medication with you to the eye doctor. ...Read more

I am 36 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound showed 6lbs1oz. My fundal height is measuring 35 cm. It's been perfect until now. Is this normal when baby drops?

It seems OK: You and your unborn baby appear to be doing well.
If "the baby drops", the head becomes "engaged" into your pelvis and the baby's kick count remains good..., your odds of keeping your pregnancy "perfect", of going into normal spontaneous labor after39 weeks and delivering a healthy baby seem very good. ...Read more

My baby dropped a week ago.1 meter high.her head have a huge bump after.she stil have the bump but smaller but still visible. Is it dangerous?

Bump on the head: Trauma to the head can be very serious. There can be lasting effects from the trauma after the incident. Age is important as well due to the development of bones and organs. It difficult to predict if head trauma was significant enough to cause damage. Typically if the child appears his/her usual self, eating and doing other normal activity the likelihood of serious damage is low. ...Read more

I am scheduled to have a c-sect in2 weeks, but the baby dropped and i feel.... Ready? What signs should I be on the look out for or call my dr about?

Pain: If you start having contractions, bleeding or water bag breaking just go to labor and delivery. They'll call your doctor. At this stage if a person is concerned enough to call they should go to l&d. If really having pain, call the doctor en route or call the hospital but you'll have a heads up generally, with time to get to the hospital. They are likely checking your cervix, may be sooner. ...Read more

Contractions are 5-7 mins apart and not dialating, baby dropped, doc said it wasnt braxton hicks..sent me home... no explanation. Please help!(34wks)?

MFM evaluation : Babies can drop this early without risk of preterm birth, but a close follow-up with your OB, and perhaps a trip to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist is warranted. I would make sure you are checked at least once or twice weekly until 36 weeks, and thereafter per your OB. If your water breaks or your contractions become more frequent and painful, make the appt to see the OB, don't feel bad ...Read more

Do babies go into sleep mode before labor?

Do babies go into sleep mode before labor?

Hard to say: Babies "mode" during labor would be hard to study. Sleep states are generally documented by eeg study, which is impossible in labor.Labor itself can vary in length from a few hours to a day or more and i doubt baby would be aleart or asleep for it all. Moms note fetal movements between contractions at various stages of labor, but movement can occur in sleep. Just list this as an unknown. ...Read more
