Yes: First he should be examined by his family physician to diagnose the cause of coughing for a few days. Secondly coughing very heavily can set off something we call a vaso-vagal syndrome and cause him to be lightheaded or even pass out. Irritation: Spices like pepper and hot chilis cause irritation which can make you sneeze and cough. I suspect you are having a mild case of layrngeospasm which the cold food. I am mildly concerned about this becuase if you had a severe reaction it could be serious. Perhaps an ENT doctor could help you figure this problem out. ...Read more

See doctor ASAP: It sounds like you have a fairly serious infection. Pneumonia sometimes complicates influenza, and severe flu by itself sometimes causes breathing problems.
