Baby acne: The baby acne is a common event that reflects hormones transferred during the pregnancy. While the baby is floating in moisture, the skin is will not respond, but within 1-3 weeks after birth they break out for many weeks until the hormone levels drop & the acne disappears. Keeping the skin clean ; avoiding irritating soaps helps. It has no relationship to allergy. If it persists > 3mo see the doc

Baby Acne (Definition)

My 3 and a half week old son has small red pimples all over his face, arms, scalp, the back of his neck & a little on his legs. Is this baby acne?

Probably: A baby floating in the slick moist environment of the womb will have pristine skin at birth. Between 2 wks and 2 months, more than half of infants will have transient baby acne triggered by the hormones that came across during pregnancy.Keeping it clean allows it to run its course. If any sites are more inflamed or persistent, your doc should evaluate. It should fade completely by 3 mo.

My daughter has red bumps all over her except her nose today I noticed three more on her chest, is this baby acne, eczema or heat rash?

Red bumps: Not knowing your child's age I would rule out baby acne. Eczema doesn' t usually cause bumps. She might heat rash but could also have the hives. For heat rash cut down on room temperature and/ or clothes child is wearing. For hives you can try benadryl (diphenhydramine).

Baby acne: Baby acne is a common occurence. Wash her face with mild soap once a day. Do not try to pop the pimples or blackheads. The acne will disappear over several months. If the acne is becoming more widespread have her seen by her doctor.

7 week infant has baby acne and dry skin on face. What can I do to help? How long does thr acnd usually last?

Patience: Baby acne is a common and temporary problem. It usually appears by age 2 weeks and disappears by 3 months. Keeping the skin clean is the major plan. If it persists after 3 months and or intensifies, some normal ace treatments can be beneficial, but the doc should look into unusual hormonal issues as a cause at that point.

Anywhere teens have: Baby acne is very similar in origin and distribution as that of a teenager. The face & upper chest & back are most often involved along with the shoulders. All the lesions seem to be a similar age & gradually fade over time.

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Not advisable: There is much folklore surrounding the use of urine as a cure-all, but little evidence of any benefit. Urine should be sterile and not cause disease, but there are much better treatments for both oral thrush and acne. Baby acne does not need treatment and will go away on its own. Benzoyl peroxide is far more effective for treatment of adult acne.

Does sorebeline cream work for baby acne on the back, cheeks and neck?

Be patient: Baby acne will resolve in time. I would not apply anything on it. At times, they get worst before they get better.

Seborrheic derm: Not baby acne, more likely seborrheic dermatitis (cradle cap). Use aquaphor to all affected areas and gently scrape out the crust. Probably not an allergic reaction. The good news is that they grow out of it. Attach a pic if you can :)

Erythema Toxicum: Nothing to worry about. "e. Tox" is a very common benign newborn rash. Leave it alone and it will go away on its own.

Rash in newborn: ETN is not likely the cause (usually in first few days to 2 wks). Neonatal acne is common and generally starts around 3 weeks of age. Yes, neonatal acne can cover the areas mentioned. Another common rash to be considered is seborrheic dermatitis - this rash will typically have flaky patches as well. No treatment for acne, severe seborrhea may be tx with low dose steroid (ask your pediatrician)

What's the oldest age that you might still see some cradle cap on the scalp or baby acne on the face?

What's the oldest age that you might still see some cradle cap on the scalp or baby acne on the face?

6 months: The sweat and oil glands in the newborn need to develop and mature. During this process they can produce effects that appear as cradle cap and "acne". This maturing varies a lot. Most infants mature within a couple months. If signicant effects persist beyond 6 months, further evaluation is warranted.

Are the pimples on my baby's chin baby acne?

Are the pimples on my baby's chin baby acne?

Yes: It could also be milia - tiny white bumps on newborn skin. Acne tends to develop a few weeks after birth, while milia are often present at birth. Milia are thought to be due to premature or blocked sebaceous (oil) glands. There is no need for treatment, they will disappear naturally.

Why is not ok to kiss a 2 week old baby on her face? I also noticed she have some baby acne will that go away? Why do they get acne?

Why is not ok to kiss a 2 week old baby on her face? I also noticed she have some baby acne will that go away? Why do they get acne?

Risk/yes/natural: We encourage parents not to expose newborns to any source of illness for the first 8 wks. This is the time frame where germs passed during delivery might show up as blood poisoning & show only as mild fever. I hate doing blood tests/possible spinal tap on a baby because their aunt wants to play kissy kiss.Baby acne reflects maternal pregnancy hormones & fades by 3 mo.
