Does baby soap produce blackheads on my face?

Does baby soap produce blackheads on my face?

Shouldnt: Probably has no effect. The best treatment for blackheads is long term use of prescription tretinoin or adapalene. If you can only use over the counter products and cannot go see a doctor, you will benefit from over the counter products with salicylic acid. A procedure called dermasweep has given my patients good results, too. ...Read more

Any advice about how to treat acne? Whiteheads on checks? Blackheads on nose? Pimples on chin, forehead, and around the eyes? Advice?

Some options...: For treatment of acne, over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide gel/cream is quite helpful. If desired, a doctor can add an antibiotic gel/cream such as Cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) gel. If more help is needed, prescription retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin gel can be used instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline can be used also. If acne is quite severe, a dermatologist might use oral ccutane. ...Read more

Acne like spots on my babys face?

Acne like spots on my babys face?

Neonatal Acne: This is very common and resolves on its own. Neonatal acne (birth - 3 months of life) is a reaction to malassezia yeast as well as the maternal hormones in-utero. This all resolves spontaneously by month 3 of life. Infantile acne (3 - 6months of life) is a bit more complicated but can be treated. However, you should see your pediatrician for help with this. ...Read more

My daughter has red bumps all over her except her nose today i noticed three more on her chest, is this baby acne, eczema or heat rash?

Red bumps: Not knowing your child's age i would rule out baby acne. Eczema doesn' t usually cause bumps. She might heat rash but could also have the hives.. For heat rash cut down on room temperature and/ or clothes child is wearing. For hives you can try benadryl (diphenhydramine). ...Read more

Patience: Baby acne is a common and temporary problem. It usually appears by age 2 weeks and disappears by 3 months. Keeping the skin clean is the major plan. Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Not advisable: There is much folklore surrounding the use of urine as a cure-all, but little evidence of any benefit. Urine should be sterile and not cause disease, but there are much better treatments for both oral thrush and acne. Baby acne does not need treatment and will go away on its own. Benzoyl peroxide is far more effective for treatment of adult acne. ...Read more

What's the oldest age that you might still see some cradle cap on the scalp or baby acne on the face?

6 months: The sweat and oil glands in the newborn need to develop and mature. During this process they can produce effects that appear as cradle cap and "acne". This maturing varies a lot. Risk/yes/natural: We encourage parents not to expose newborns to any source of illness for the first 8 wks. This is the time frame where germs passed during delivery might show up as blood poisoning & show only as mild fever. Does baby acne leave any scars? Does gently wiping the face with a baby wipe after feeding and milk spit ups going to make things any worse?

Soap & H2O better: (I am not a pediatrician, but I am a father.) Neonatal acne does not normally leave scars. It usually goes away on its own. In the meantime, I would recommend using just soap (eg, very dilute baby shampoo) and water on a soft wash rag, and avoiding commercial wipes that may have allergenic oils and fragrance. ...Read more

My 3 and a half week old son has small red pimples all over his face, arms, scalp, the back of his neck & a little on his legs. Is this baby acne?

Probably: A baby floating in the slick moist environment of the womb will have pristine skin at birth.Between 2 wks and 2 months, more than half of infants will have transient baby acne triggered by the hormones that came across during pregnancy.Keeping it clean allows it to run its course. If any sites are more inflamed or persistent, your doc should evaluate. It should fade completely by 3 mo. ...Read more

Can baby acne spread to ears eyelids and head? Can erythema toxicum neonatum occur at 3-4 weeks and spread to those places as well? Red bumps and pus

Rash in newborn: ETN is not likely the cause (usually in first few days to 2 wks). Neonatal acne is common and generally starts around 3 weeks of age. Yes, neonatal acne can cover the areas mentioned. Another common rash to be considered is seborrheic dermatitis - this rash will typically have flaky patches as well. No treatment for acne, severe seborrhea may be tx with low dose steroid (ask your pediatrician) ...Read more

Not necessarily: You may have dryness and scaling at the start of many acne treatments. It gets better over time as you get used to it. Consider talking to your doc about using less often at first. Also, overscrubbing, hot water, other skin care products that are not hypoallergenic. Use lipstick and eye cosmetics but avoid face makeup and powder for now. Call your doc if worse, painful, hot, red, have pus. ...Read more
