Polymerase Chain Reaction (Definition)

Polymerase chain reaction is a method of finding a specific piece of dna and copying it over and over again until there is enough to study. The technique allows a scientist to detect very small amounts of dna in a swab sample then reproduce enough of it to study it. It is very sensisitive for detecting the presence of certain bacteria and is also used in doing other ...Read more

After 4 months Cd4 is 488 and HIV Elisa,rapid,p24combo are negative and HIV RNA quantitative real time PCR is target not detected.it is 100% negetive?

Yes: Consider yourself healthy. Nobody even knows the false-negative rate for these tests beyond this time, because people who turn up positive later could well be fibbing about the time of exposure. Hey, man.... You've been through a rough time and I'm glad you're okay. But whatever happened, I hope you'll cherish the memory of loving and having been loved. Be wise from now on. Best wishes. ...Read more

After 4 months Cd4 is 488 and HIV Elisa,rapid,p24combo are negative and HIV RNA quantitative real time PCR is target not detected.it is 100% negetive?

As near 100% as: practical. If the HIV RNA test is negative at 4 months after exposure that is as close to 100% as you can get. I trust that you did not have more exposures to HIV. ...Read more

Any known cases of 16 weeks negative HIV combo (architect) and RNA (cobas taqman v2) turning positive afterwards? Thanks

Nope: There are no reported cases, and this is a pretty much impossible scenario. You can be sure you don't have HIV, assuming no other exposures more recently. ...Read more

Hiv DNA PCR dectected on 4/08/13 and antibody negative.Still now 6/3/13 8 weeks later still show HIV anitbody negative. What are your thoughts? Is the PCR a false positive?

Hiv DNA PCR dectected on 4/08/13 and antibody negative.Still now 6/3/13 8 weeks later still show HIV anitbody negative. What are your thoughts? Is the PCR a false positive?

Not necessarily: Is it really the dna or the RNA pcr? The dna qualitative pcr is the most sensitive test and may become positive months before antibody is detected. The quantitative RNA pcr that is used for monitoring also becomes positive early. Antibodies may not develop until 3 months from the infection. So, they may still develop. If you have not seen a HIV physician and are not on art, see one asap. ...Read more

HIV NEGATIVE combo (antibody + antigen) tests at 4,6,10,13,14 weeks and PCR RNA VL UNDETECTED (14 weeks) white tongue, chronic pharyngitis. Am I HIV-?

You are HIV negative: Listen, man. Stop doing this to yourself. Get to an otolaryngologist and see if you have a post-nasal drip, maybe heavy snoring without realizing it, or some actual serious illness. Try scraping the stuff off your tongue with a piece of dental floss; if it's still white patches, ask your dentist's opinion also. But please get over these HIV fears. Maybe even be thankful for having shared love. ...Read more

Is HIV PCR DNA test after 9 weeks conclusive enough?

Is HIV PCR DNA test after 9 weeks conclusive enough?

HIV PCR testing: Yes. This excellent new way of testing viruses is very sensitive. It is thought that the HIV pcr dna test can narrow the window to 14 to 21 days post exposure. A negative test at 9 weeks post exposure means you do not have hiv. ...Read more

I had unprotected oral sex on me I saw no blood I have no sores I am circumsized I have tooken a HIV dna pcr test at 18 days and a 46 also a 4 week and 6 week duo test and a 8 week rapid test am I ok?

You're OK: Oral sex is safe sex for HIV, with no proved transmissions by fellatio from mouth to penis, only rare ones penis to oral. You didn't need testing on account of this event and for sure not the multiple expensive ones you had. But the results from that combination of tests are conclusive. For sure you didn't catch HIV during that exposure and no further testing is needed. Best wishes and stay safe! ...Read more
