Your doc probably checks liver function periodically & asks if u have leg cramps, both potential side effects. Liver/muscle: Statin drugs usually are associted with muscle pains and possible muscle damage. A CPK level of 10x upper limit of normal indicates the drug should be stopped. Liver damage is noted by a increase in the enzymes (alt and ast). When the levels are greater than 3 x the upper limit of normal the statin should be stopped or decreased. Ever see patient side effects decrease with an increase in dosage? Ex. Increase dose from 20mg Lipitor (atorvastatin) to 40mg. I understand illogic, just curious
Possible explanation: Perhaps the perceived side effect from the lower dose was not related to the medicine and resolved as per it's natural course which simply coincided with increase in the dose of the medicine. Or perhaps the body adapted well thus overcoming the side effect which simply coincided with increase in the dose of the medicine. ...Read more
