How long do chlamydia symptoms last after taking a single dose of 1000mg Azithromycin?

How long do chlamydia symptoms last after taking a single dose of 1000mg Azithromycin?

A few days: The usual symptoms of chlamydia in men are penile discharge and sometimes discomfort passing urine. Both should start to improve in 2-3 days, but up to 10 days to clear entirely. Azithromycin is very long acting, in your system for 7-10 days after a single dose, so slow improvement usually doesn't mean more treatment is needed. I have had a reinfection of chlamydia after taking azithromycin 1g. Should I then consider a higher dosage? Would 1.5g single dose be recommended?

I have had a reinfection of chlamydia after taking azithromycin 1g. Should I then consider a higher dosage? Would 1.5g single dose be recommended?

Re infection?: No. A dose for treatment remains the same. The question is why you were not also treated appropriately for a co-infection with gonorrhea and if the re infection is actually a treatment failure because you were not offered the better treatment by treating for both. In my clinic and in many other public health minded experts we always treat for both regardless of test results. ...Read more

I took 1000g of azithromycin at once for a single day dose a week ago for chlamydia, can I take another 1000g if some symptoms are still occurring?

I took 1000g of azithromycin at once for a single day dose a week ago for chlamydia, can I take another 1000g if some symptoms are still occurring?

Give it time: This med is different than some. It actually attaches to your fat cells after ingestion and gradually enters your blood for a week or more to do its work. That is one reason they use it in STD's, to try to get people to remember all their med. If you take it all at once, you don't have to remember to take more. Yes you can be re-treated but may not need to. ...Read more

Not only chlamydia?: Chlamydia usually causes no symptoms in women. Sometimes vaginal discharge and/or painful urination, but usually not "irritation", itching, genital swelling, redness, etc. You might have had more than chlamydia, such as a yeast infection. Or possibly herpes if any blisters or sores. Check back with the doctor or clinic where you were treated. Good luck! ...Read more

Could I infect my partner with chlamydia six days after single dose of azithromycin?

Probably not: Chlamydia probably becomes non-infectious for partners w'ithin a day or two of treatment with azithromycin. It is usually advised to wait a week, in order to give a large margin of safety, but 6 days should be safe. Of course if you had the same partner previously, you can assume he is infected already. Even if he had a negative test, he also needs treatment before you have sex again. Good luck! ...Read more

How long does it usually take for one dose of 1, 000 mg Azithromycin to clear up a RECTAL Chlamydia infection? I still have minor symptoms 11 days later after taking Azithromycin. Should I re-check?

How long does it usually take for one dose of 1, 000 mg Azithromycin to clear up a RECTAL Chlamydia infection? I still have minor symptoms 11 days later after taking Azithromycin. Should I re-check?

Seven days: You should not have sex again until you and your sex partner (s) have completed treatment. If your doctor prescribes a single dose of medication, you should wait seven days after taking the medicine before having sex. If your doctor prescribes a medicine for you to take for seven days, you should wait until you have taken all of the doses before having sex. I think you should get rechecked. ...Read more

If I drink a couple if beers four hours after taking azithromycin single dose will it fail to cure chlamydia?

If I drink a couple if beers four hours after taking azithromycin single dose will it fail to cure chlamydia?

Not recommended: Antibiotics and combined Alcohol use are never recommended as the Z pak (azithromycin) is likely not going to be as effective for chlamydia use.

My rationale is that Z pak (azithromycin) is metabolized in the liver by Cytochrome p450 and Alcohol increases this same enzyme that degrades a Z pak (azithromycin).

My doctor just prescribed me one dose of azithromycin to treat chlamydia. My boyfriend doesn't have any insurance currently and needs this as well. Is?

Don't share meds!: Your question's incomplete, so I'm not sure what you're asking. But I suspect you want to share prescription meds with your boyfriend. I would NOT encourage you to do so. How do you know he "needs" Azithro? More than you? If he does need it, he should see a physician. Azithro may not be the best treatment med for his condition.
