It recommends certain lifestyle practices, certain foods as well as use of a variety of herbal medication. I have some concerns about some of these herbs particularly from overseas. They have contaminants. ...Read more

What should I eat in ayurveda?

What should I eat in ayurveda?

YOU must decide: The Ayurveda is a remarkable compendium of ancient medical lore, but in today's era we cannot consider it evidence-based and at least some of it seems to be people's unreliable impressions. Life's too difficult already without your binding yourself too strictly to the educated guesses of prescientific people, though the community may offer you friendships and personal support. ...Read more

What are useful medicinal plants in ayurveda?

Fascinating: For scientific physicians, Ayurveda is a prescientific medical system developed by people observing and making educated guesses. From my own reading, myrrh, ginseng, garlic, and ginko have interesting pharmaceutical properties. Most of us could not recommend them as supplement though some people do use them. Don't use Ayurveda in place of evidence-based rx if you are seriously ill. Thanks 4 asking. ...Read more

Does Ayurveda really treat mental illness?

Does Ayurveda really treat mental illness?

Too broad a question: There is no single mental illness. There are many mental disorders. More than 2000 years ago ayurvedic physicians in india treated psychosis/ schizophrenia with a plant called rawulfia serpentina. The main chemical of this plant is reserpine. In usa they treated schizophrenia in 50s with reserpine. I will say thet ayurvedic medicine should not be your first choice for major mental disorders. ...Read more

Can you tell me how could we cure psoriasis in ayurveda?

Nobody cures it: It can be managed. I'd trust an evidence-based physician. If you are promised a cure through ayurveda, it probably won't happen. Remember psoriasis comes and goes. When it fails, the practitioner is likely to make an excuse. ("You ate GMO food.") There are comforting agents that a traditional practitioner may have for the skin. These can be adjuncts. Best wishes. ...Read more
