What's the natural size of axillary lymph nodes in their normal state? I heard they can be up to 2cm.. If that's true, how come they cannot be felt?

Need more info: This could be systemic infection, a non-infectious inflammatory condition like sarcoidosis, malignancy either of the lymphatic system or spread of tumor from elsewhere, and there are several remote other possibilities. Blocks lymphatics: The lymph nodes are accumulations of white blood cells which filter the extracellular water being carried back to the blood steam from all over the body. If the nodes are mechanically removed the lymph channels are no longer connected resulting in accumulation of extracellular water (edema) upstream from the removed nodes. Heterogenous: fibroglandular distribution is simply an assessment of breast density, and doesn't imply that there is any abnormality. "Dense" breasts may make the mammo more difficult to interpret, and therefore may decrease the sensitivity for detecting cancer, however.
