Can relocating from India to US increase risk of MS relapse? Disease is stable on Avonex (interferon beta 1a) in India. Environment Change = relapse? Shd I avoid travel?

Advice: 1. OK to travel 2. Risk of relapse should be similar in US
3. Avonex is NOT my drug of choice, and will likely need to be changed in future due to low level of efficacy. Three oral drugs exist in US, and include Aubagio, Tecfidera, and Gilenya, (fingolimod) and might be a good choice. ...Read more

I have Multiple Sclerosis and have been taking Avonex (interferon beta 1a) Injection since March 2014. I am now experiencing several symptoms of side effects from it. Stom?

I have Multiple Sclerosis and have been taking Avonex (interferon beta 1a) Injection since March 2014. I am now experiencing several symptoms of side effects from it. Stom?

Suggestions: Avonex (interferon beta 1a) is an interferon, and causes a multitude of adverse side effects, and due to it's minimal potency, and need for injecting, I no longer use in any of my patients. There are better tolerated oral meds on the market, and even the injectable Copaxone would provide less side effects, and superior efficacy. Discuss with your neurologist. ...Read more

27 M, RRMS since 5 yrs. Avonex since 2 yrs., ED is the main symptom. Viagra (sildenafil) not working. Early morning T levels 320ng/dl. Can MS patient take T supp?

Answers: If you have MS and ED, you may have spinal cord involvement as the culprit, so, would first focus on the MS. Get off Avonex, it is the least effective drug on the market, and may be contributing to your ED. Consider an oral agent such as Gilenya (fingolimod) or Aubagio. You certainly could take testosterone but there are risks and a urologist should get involved. Take vitamin D-3 supplements. ...Read more
