Hypertension: Avalide (hydrochlorothiazide and irbesartan) contains same blood pressure medication (Irbesartan) as in Avapro plus weak diuretic (water pill), Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). HCTZ may lower potassium while Irbesartan may increase potassium, thus canceling out each other's potential side effect.
