I already have GPA vasculitis, what are my chances of getting any other type of vasculitis even when I'm immune suppressed? Thanks
Infections chances+: Immunosuppression for vasculitis can put you at risk for infections , but adifferent vasculitis condition developing from immunosuppression is not there though coexisting another vasculitic condition if there can surface anytime Immunosuppression also predispose to cancers while on them for a long period , becasue of viral infections while immunosuppressed cause changes in the structure of cells ...Read more
The immune system developed to tell our own, normal cells (self) from foreign and abnormal cells (non-self). This lets the immune system eliminate viruses, bacteria, fungi and cancer cells from our body without harming normal cells. Sometimes the immune system fails to tell self from non-self and it attacks normal cells, for example in ...Read more
Dr says I've immune low platelets & vasculitis. 28f lifelong martial artist+runner. If I'm careful, can I still bleed? Are they as serious as I read?
How low?: Mild immune thrombocytopenia is basically harmless, a disease of the lab tests. If your platelets are around 50,000 or below, I'd get a couple of opinions. I'd also insist on a more specific diagnosis that "vasculitis". Do you perhaps have lupus? How has the workup proceeded? I'm very glad you're exercising and if impact sports become a problem, consider swimming (my sport). ...Read more
I'm a vasculitis patient and have been immune suppressed now for 8 years, i'm worried about cancer, and recently been having a lot of sym of ovary can?
Worry isn't helpful: I see that you are on Cyclophosphamide and this matches your vasculitis history. Despite 'pop' wisdom, Cyclophosphamide doesn't cause cancer by suppressing your immune toxicity, but by direct damage to genes. The usual cancers are bladder and acute myelogenous leukemia. Hopefully you get regular pelvic exams with palpation of your ovaries; this is the best screen for ovarian ca. ...Read more
A year ago I was told I needed needed more omega 3 + vit D could this have prevented HSP vasculitis. I read somewhere that these prevent autoimmune D.
Uncertain: omega 3 is considered anti-inflammatory and vitamin D3 an immune regulator. Thus they may be helpful for autoimmune diseases by decreasing the inflammation and bolstering the immune regulation. However there is still a gap between the purported actions vs actual results in modifying disease conditions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Does having relatives with any form of an autoimmune disease have anything to do with my having vasculitis?

Keep tabs on what illnesses your relatives have and then ask your physician for a detailed explanation of your own disease to better understand the spectrum and where you (your kids) might fall. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Amost certain:NOT!: Don't worry about one test. If you have no signs and symptoms of lupus, you and the treating physician would know. Consumption of complement always involves vasculitis or autoimmune hemolysis. Apparently not in play. I definitely would not worry. See a rheumatology doc if you still have doubts! ...Read more
