Autism Vitamin Powder
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting three areas: abnormal socialization, communication, and restricted interests with repetitive patterns of behavior. It is usually detected in the first two years of life. Cause is unknown but strong evidence points to an interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Patients with autism may display significant delays in certain developmental areas while having normal or superior strengths in other developmental or learning domains. The severity of the disorder is highly variable ...Read more
Wish that were so...: Although the internet abounds with stories of children with autism improving with certain vitamins, dietary supplements, and special diets, there is not evidence that any of these treatments help most children with autism. My patients are free to try these (if safe) if they want, though i don't endorse them. I wish there was a simple nutritional solution to this very difficult condition. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not Really: Many children with autism are picky eaters and have intestinal issues. Nonetheless, supplements are not helpful, expensive, and in some cases unsafe. Stories about improvement after starting a treatment appear to be compelling. However there is a lot of hidden bias in such stories. Has it been looked into if an abundance of vitamin K in the blood causes autism? I know the study was of a deficiency of the vitamin. Thank you.
How to say this...: I'm glad you asked the question here. Even the linus pauling institute (linus pauling started the popular idea about special benefits for vitamin c decades ago based on no scientific evidence; only 1 person's theory), does not support any evidence that what you are asking about makes any sense; look it up. ...Read more

Psyllium husk powder (vitamin shoppe) safe during pregnancy? How many times in a day may I use this product? How many times a week?
Yes, definitely: Psyllium powder is definitely safe in pregnancy. It is not absorbed by your body, but rather pulls water into the intestine. You could use the product every day, even twice a day. Another great medication that functions in he exact same way (but tastes better) is miralax, (polyethylene glycol) or generic equivalent. Same idea, not absorbed, can take 1-2 times a day. Remember to drink lots of water too! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
