When do signs of autism first appear? Passed MCHAT but was diagnosis with HFA at 3 years. Other than late talking, other signs didn't appear till 2.8 years.
First two years: Autism is a disorder, first diagnosed by leo kanner in the 1940's characterized by a lack of social and emotinal relatedness, there is no social smiling, no recognition of important people, ie mother. Depends on age: Children vary a lot in when they develop these skills. Many toddlers don't do either for a long time. I have notice I am becoming very sensitive to critism such as mum telling me I am talking too much. I have autism i feel low as I am getting senstive.
I don't know if you: Are in any form of treatment right now. There are psychoeducational groups for people who have high functioning autism - to allow them to build on social skills. If your believe that you are becoming overly sensitive - cognitive behavioral therapy may help. And if the relationship with your mum is strained - family therapy can also be beneficial. DAN doctor: Ask your physician. Look for a dan (defeat autism now) physician. Look at handle program. Consult with a chinese medicine practitioner for help in treating it as well. In my area I have a fabulous psychiatry practice who is wonderful in diagnosing and helping patients. Look for one in your area...And ask your doc first for a referral. Why do people keep talking about children suffering autism spectrum disorders? What about all the other kids?
Good point: Kids with autism have "spikes" in development, leading us to feel that if we could "unlock" the child's brain, he might function independently as an adult, whereas kids with other genetic & medical neurodevelopmental disorders tend to have less dramatic splits in their cognitive abilities. My son was born at 28 weeks and has mild pvl.Cp global delay. He cannot talk at nearly 4yrs old. Could doctors be overlooking autism in favor of global delay?
Certainly Possible: There can be some degree of overlap between the two conditions. Many of the featured behaviors of both can be shared.
