Can i get prescribed Adderall or ritalin (methylphenidate) if I have autism? (more specifically speaking; asperger's syndrome?)

Yes, you can take: stimulant medication if diagnosed with ADHD-Primarily Inattentive Type. 40-70 % of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder also have ADHD. Start at a lower dose than is used for adults who have ADHD but no ASD & increase the dose in smaller increments to its maximum effect. Stimulants can increase anxiety, common in ASD. You may need to add a an anti-anxiety medication or use a non-stimulant. ...Read more

Autism (Definition)

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting three areas: abnormal socialization, communication, and restricted interests with repetitive patterns of behavior. It is usually detected in the first two years of life. Cause is unknown but strong evidence points to an interplay between genetic and environmental factors. Female patient is on risperdal and adderall; she also has high func. Autism and ADHD and is 11 yrs old. Is this a seizure?

The Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is most likely being used to treat the adhd. I'm not sure why she is on the risperdal, and i'm not sure what you are referring to as to is this (what) a seizure. Please clarify. ...Read more

Is autism transmitted?

Is autism transmitted?

Its not contagious,: if that's what you mean. There are genetic links that run in families, so in that sense there is greater likelihood of ending up with autism or something related if one or more of your biological parents have it. But, genetics is very far away from being able to predict what child will get it, given the parent's symptoms. If this is your concern, find a genetic counselor for the latest... ...Read more

Is autism misunderstood?

By some yes,: Autism can present so many different levels of severity. Impaired social skills, impaired communication, impaired relationships can present in different degrees in different people. What is an "autism stare"?

Uncomfortable gaze: Kids with autism are uncomfortable with eye contact. They can learn in therapy to make eye contact and often what happens is they can develop a trained "stare" in which they are trying to make eye contact (which is terribly innately uncomfortable for them) and they end up " over doing it" so to speak. I think this is what you are referring to. ...Read more

How to know if I have autism?

I doubt it: Chances are, if you are writing FOR YOURSELF right now. You do NOT have autism. An autistic person wouldn't care enough about it nor be understanding of the vast outside world enough to write the question and ask the internet. Hope that helped. Be well : ) ...Read more
