Have had chronic earache for 3 days and ear drops not working. The pain is unbearable and I have been taking painkillers every 2 hours to help ease it?
Ear infection: If you have not been using qtips in your ear for wax removal it is a middle ear infection with pressure building up. You need to see pcp as an emergency visit now. If you have been cleaning , you may have caused an infection in canal and may have left part of the qtip in your canal and started a severe infection which now involves drum and middle ear like i saw about 6 wks ago! get to pcp now! ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Dx otitis media Wed. (First developed previous Thu.) Rx antibiotics and ear drops. Symptoms got better, but this AM felt ill, dizzy, and earache.
Pressure: Persistent or progressive symptoms despite antibiotics may indicate persistent (noninfectious) fluid or persistent infection resulting in asymmetric middle ear pressure and dizziness. If no myringotomy (ear) tube or ear drum perforation exists drops are unnecessary. See an otolaryngologist with persistent symptoms. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Do I have a perforated ear drum? I have had chronic earaches since i was a kid. Lately I have noticed that i cannot hear well out of my left ear, and I do hear the ocean sound. I put some ear drops in ( left over from my last doctor visit), but it hasn't
High : High pressures generated from a valsalva maneuver that you performed could generate the type of sound that you described if you had a perforation. Also, if you tasted your eardrops that could be an indirect sign of perforation as a pathway from your ear canal, through a perforation, down the eustacian tube, and into the back of your throat. If you haven't seen an ent, it may be wise to have this checked, get a hearing test, and discuss options for possible corrective surgery if you have a perforation, or other appropriate tympanomastoid surgery depending on the severity of the problem. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Severe ear infection: This could be a simple outer ear infection (otitis externa) with extension to the auricle, or an acute mastoiditis (severe middle ear infection with spread to the surrounding mastoid bone) which usually causes severe tenderness behind the ear and inside the ear. Whichever the diagnosis, the symptoms you described sound worrisome and really require an immediate intervention. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
My 37 year old is screaming with ear ache has been to two doctors today. Only gave her ear drops. What shall i do?
Different/more meds.: I am not sure why he is having so much pain--inner ear infection usually not intensely painful. Swimmer's ear can be quite painful. I am not sure what drops he got, but must find out what is causing his his pain. There is "novacaine drops" which can help with pain fast. Tmj can also cause pain, so is shingle. Add motrin/tylenol which may help, and re-consult doc as soon as you need to. Good luck. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
My child had ear wax. I tried to remove but it went in further. she has now has a fever and ear ache! I'm now using ear drops! Is it a infection?
Ear infection: Ear pain combined with fever is suggestive of an ear infection. Impacted ear wax can be safely removed in a doctors office with with a special spoon (curette) or by flushing with solution. Using Qtips in children often worsens impaction because of their small ear canals. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Not a good idea!: Will not help a mid ear infection-need an oral antibiotic. May cause significant burning in an ear canal (outer ear) infection. Severe burning if you have hole in eardrum with infection. Only ok, mixed with white vinegar, for ear canal drying/cleaning, if no canal inflammation & no eardrum perforation. See an otology/ent md for treatment. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
Only for outer infxn: Alcohol in the ear could only work in the case of a bacterial infection of the outer ear canal (swimmers ear). Not all ear aches have to do with the ear, however, and if it doesn't help you should see your primary care doctor or an ent. ...Read moreGet help from a doctor now ›
