I've read in healthtap about tecfidera, gilenya (fingolimod) and tisabry MS treatments. What's your opinion about interferon treatment (using rebif 44mg)?
Not first choice: Look, we are in a new age of treatment, and need to acknowledge that the older injectables were great to use, but the drugs you listed are far more effective, and avoid needles (except tysabri, (natalizumab) one infusion monthly) yet, risks are present with all three, and in comparison with rebif, absence of long-term safety data. If you are doing well, could stay on current med, but change if MRI is active. ...Read more
Yes: 5-fu is a type of chemotherapy. It can be given by iv, or in certain cases as a cream that the patient inserts into the vagina with an applicator. I'm not sure why it has been recommended to you, but it has side effects you should understand. Ask your doctor for more information. Good luck! ...Read more

Ask the: provider who made the diagnosis which criteria were met. Is "pdoc" used as an abbreviation for psychiatrist or primary care physician? It would be best if the diagnosis was made by a psychiatrist or psychologist who has done a careful assessment using DSM criteria. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 1 year ago.I tookeffexor 75 &lyrica (pregabalin) 75 one pill a day& i felt better. Now i stopped takin lyrica (pregabalin) but I am feelin pain?
Get back on Lyrica (pregabalin).: Lyrica (pregabalin) has been shown to be effective in treating fibromyalgia pain, but usual doses are 150 mg. Three times a day. Effexor is not shown to be effective but may improve your mood. Usual doses are around 300 mg. A day. It is pretty certain that 75 mg of Effexor will not be helpful for fibromyalgia pain. You must continue to take the Lyrica (pregabalin) to get benefit. ...Read more
Had twinrix vac 6yrs. Ago. Tested recently for hep a&b. Both were pos. (immune). Why did hep b say IgG and hep a didn't? I am immune to both correct?
Yes: That's usually the way the tests are named. The hepa test for immunity is a test for total hepa antibody (meaning igg and igm combined). So, if a person is not suffering from hepatitis a at the moment, then there wouldn't be any hepa igm, but only hepa igg (which would mean the person is immune if she has an adequate level of the igg). The test may be labeled "hepa immunity" or "hepa total". ...Read more

What tests (beside TB test) and vaccinations are needed before starting first time remicade (infliximab) fusion for left-sided ulcerative colitis? Mmr vaccine?
Check hepatitis B: The risk of reactivation of tuberculosis and hepatitis b when taking Remicade (infliximab) obligates pre-treatment testing. Live vaccines can not be accepted while on the drug. Your doctor will no doubt be candid when discussing all the risks of "biologic treatment"--please discuss these with him before initiating this very efficacious and generally well-tolerated drug class. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My daughter &son weregiven amoxicillin for strep in august, my daughter has become sick again so i gave her this med (exp shows 2014) is this ok?
Bad idea : If it was a liquid med, it begins to deteriorate as soon as water is added and Amoxicillin is no longer good after 2 wks in thr refrigerator or 1 week at room temperature.(no matter what the expiration for the dry powder). If a pill, it would be still in date, but without a proper test proven strep, the treatment may be wrong. If mono, you may be rewarded with an interesting rash. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Mono treatment : Infectious mononucleosis or "mono" is a viral infection caused by Epstein Barr virus or EBV. I like to know with certainty what is the cause of a pt's symptoms so hopefully your docs nailed it with an EBV panel. Treatment only requires hospitalization if severe-- part of that may include antiviral medicines like Acyclovir because EBV is a herpes group virus. Vit C won't help unless ur diet is poor ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
