My 6months baby has fever and throat infection. He is on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) and panadol for two days now but the fever is not getting better. What should I do. pls help?
Can recheck with Dr.: A 6-month baby can have a fever when there is an infection. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin drops are commonly used (for fevers over 100-101 degrees) to lower the fever so the baby will be more comfortable and less fussy. Parents should have a baby rechecked if symptoms are not better after a couple of days, or if symptoms are worse at any time. Strep throat infections feel better after 2-3 days of Augmentin. ...Read more

Throat infection: An antibiotic should only be given if there was a strep test or culture done. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) is Amoxicillin and clavulinic acid. Amoxicillin is usually sufficient for strep. Even in the few cases where strep is resistant to Amoxicillin (or augmentin), the resistance is usually short-lived and resolves within 3 months. So, you do not have lie-long resistance. ...Read more

Fever and tongue: Most fevers in children are caused by cold viruses. Some of them will cause a bump on the top, back and sides of the mouth. Most tongue bumps in children are not signs of infection.
