Atrophy Of Fore Arm
Server pain in rght armpit and elbow w/tingling down to distal forearm;atrophy in armpit, elbow, and thenar mscle of hand.
Atrophy usually refers to the skin-as you get older or if you have had alot of sun in the past-the dermis (that is the layer below the top layer which is called the epidermis) gets thinner and the skin looks more wrinked. Muscles and fat can also get thinner -this is another form of atrophy. Even the top layer gets thinner ...Read more
Atrophy of bicep. Pain along side of forearm. Fasciculation of ring finger. Mri reveals only reverse lordosis. I assume cause is trapped nerve? Where?
I have muscle spams in wrists. Exhaustion occur afterward between lower palm to part of fore arm closest to the wrist?
You have to be: a "detective" and provide additional information about what you are DOING...what REPETITIVE MOTION YOU DO at home or AT WORK to result in spasm of these muscles. You may want to consult with a HAND SPECIALIST who may order an EMG/NCS test to see how the nerves/muscles in your wrists/hands are working! Hope this helps! Dr Z ...Read more

ALS is usually-: -symmetrical. Also stopping lifting will cause you to feel this way. If really still concerned or for a definitive diagnosis, make an appointment 2 see a neurologist. ...Read more
Numbness/light pain in my left pinky and ring fingers, and side of hand. Maybe spreading elsewhere in hand. Fear of motor neuron disease.
Don't think so: Hi. What you're describing would be a sensory neuropathy, and given the distribution (ulnar nerve), I suspect it's a physical problem ,not metabolic. Motor neuron disease (aka ALS) only affects nerves to muscles, and leaves sensory nerves alone. I'm not a neurologist, but I feel safe in assuring you this is not motor neuron disease. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Nerve: You sound like you are describing nerve symptoms in the arm from a pinched nerve in the neck. This numbness and weakness will start in the arm and travel down to the hand. You should see your family md for an evaluation. It could be carpal tunnel syndrome but that should not cause arm weakness. ...Read more
Pain and some weakness in outer side of upper left forearm after striking golf or tennis ball (forehand stroke only--I am left-handed). Cause?
Tendinitis likely.: From your short description, it sounds like tendinitis in the L shoulder, either from overuse / over-training or from some other injury. Playing sports just aggravates it. This is by far the most common cause of shoulder pain in athletes. For now, rest the shoulder, ice it as often as you can, & sleep in a comfortable position (on right). See a doctor or use HealthTap Prime if you're not better in ...Read more
Causes of nerve pain from the L. thumb-wrist, to the L. Arm bicep, with a swollen 1 in. lump around Extensor pollicis brevis, with a clear neck MRI ?
It could be due to a: several conditions like De Quervain's tenosynovitis which is a painful inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, carpal tunnel syndrome affecting the tendon across the wrist, a radial nerve or other nerve entrapments, or an abnormal fluid collection like a ganglion cyst. See a specialist for electrodiagnostic testing or imaging studies. ...Read more
What are the possible causes of right armpit, elbow, and thenar hand muscle atrophy and the pain associates with all three?
Complicated: Thenar branch, median nerve (c8) is responsible for the innervation of the abductor pollicis brevis and opponens pollicis. The adductor pollicis is supplied by the deep branch of the ulnar nerve (c8-th1 to affect both, must be from an area where both nerves are in proximity. Disease/compression in the armpit or the neck would make sense. Investigate cervical spine and thoracic outlet syndrome. ...Read more
Leftside elbow pain/numbness wrist/finger tips numbness, shoulder pain left side of left breast both upper part of back, not all time some ?
Pinched nerve: Because patients having cardiac problems can have these symptoms, you should have this ruled out. But the most common cause is an irritation of a nerve in the neck by a bone spur or herniation that can cause pain or numbness that runs down the arm into the hand. An MRI can usually show the cause of the problem if it does not resolve. Thank you for the question. ...Read more
What nerve(s) innervate the shoulder/tricep/top of forearm and ring/pinky fingers? Arm is burning and tight, fatigues easily after use. Pinched nerve?
See below: Digits 4 and 5 involve ulnar nerve, most of shoulder girdle involves upper brachial plexus (c-5, 6), triceps radial nerve or c-7, but you may be experiencing lower plexus issues, caused by thoracic outlet syndrome. Worth exploring further, as diagnosis could lead to successful treatment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Right shoulder and entire arm burning-muscle/fatigue type pain through tricep and top of forearm when used, with weakness in ring and pinky fingers?
Low cervical prob: Either of 2 possibilities. 1) ulnar nerve compression in the arm or elbow; this would cause numb ring (4) and pinky (5) with weakness in grip. 2) low cervical nerve pressure; would cause symptoms of triceps and forearm and numbness in fingers 4&5. Good exam likely to differentiate, but if in question MRI or emg/nerve conductions would be helpful. ...Read more

Twitching of left eyelid, dullness of sense of smell & hearing, numbness and tingling on left side of face, left ear, left scalp, left back of neck?
Pt had neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome. PT/NSAIDS got rid of pain and most numbness. He has residual numbness in tip of index finger. Any ideas?
Double the time: I agree with the original answer. The concern is not true atrophy but the loss of power and performance. The typical rule is it takes twice as long to get back to where you were as the duration of the absence. So if you missed 2 weeks, expect a 4 week interval of hard work to get back to where you were. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Stroke rehab: You have right body weakness and muscle atrophy from lack of usage resulting from a stroke on left side of your brain. Depending of the nature and size of stroke lesion, you may recover some or all of your motor function with time. Could gabapentin, lidocaisne 5% patchs, or prednisone be causn my face and rght arm to swel? I hav atrophy n ntir rght arm & hav severe pain n it.
Unilateral doubtful: While gabapentin, prednisone, and Lidocaine may all cause facial and/or peripheral edema , it is doubtful that medications alone would cause unilateral swelling in r arm unless Lidocaine patch is on r arm or wt gain from meds is causing venous thoracic outlet syndrome (tos) that now coexists with neurogenic tos. Rt side of body from head to toe is slightly skinnier but emg rules out muscle atrophy. I feel slight diff in walk and use of arm. What can cause this?
Hemibody difference: It depends if you have any sensory symptoms. If there are no sensory symptoms and EMG is normal, then this might not be a problem. Muscle atrophy usually is determined by measurements like circumferential measurements of limbs or measurements from MRI images. Emg determines peripheral nerve or muscle issues. Muscles can hypertrophy with use. Muscle atrophy can occur with lack of use like bed rest. ...Read more

Elbow soft tissue atrophy after cortisone injections. What kind of more damage can be made for hand because of this and what is the treatment?
Steroid injections: Too many steroid injections can weaken the tissues and once this occurs, the damage is done. Tendons have been known to rupture after too many cortisone shots. Can a pinched spinal cord in the neck cause muscle weakness and astrophy on your whole arm and leg muscle. Can a pinch back spinal cause same.
To involve the leg: there would have to be spinal cord involvement or a second lesion below the cervical level. If you develop increased tone and reflexes to go along with weakness and atrophy the problem may be further upstream (eg stroke). If the issue is "where is the lesion ?" the answer may need to come from a neurologist. That's a big part of what we do. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
