Can I take Xanax (alprazolam) with my neurontin and amitriptyline (both for migraines)? Was prescribed Xanax (alprazolam) for panic attacks.
Not good idea: Sleeping pills should only be taken here and there, now and then, not everyday for weeks/months/years. Sleeping pills should be effective through the night and stop working by morning, which means they should have short half-lives. Diazepam has a 20-100 hour half-life, so it is still in your system all day the next day and is not a good idea as a sleeping pill. ...Read more
Take Klonopin (clonazepam) for anxiety and sleep,Fetzima for depression, what's an alternative for Klonopin (clonazepam) that I can use,take1mg 1am,1noon,2 bed?
Many alternatives: There are many alternatives, but it depends on why you're looking for an alternative. Is Klonopin (clonazepam) not working? Perhaps the dose in wrong. Are you looking to get off of benzodiazepines (the drug class that Klonopin (clonazepam) is in) altogether? If so, then your doctor should slowly titrate you off the medication (10-25% weekly or biweekly, depending on how long you've been taking) while initiating another med ...Read more

Not enough info: Switching medications requires knowledge of your entire clinical situation. You need to discuss with prescribing doctor reason for changing any med and how to do so. Also you must be seen and carefully monitored for symptoms and side effects. I hope this helps. ...Read more

Prescribed Zoloft (sertraline) (25mg) for anxiety/panic. Took first dose tonight. Terrified of side effects. Feeling short of breath. Looking for reassurance/hope?
Persevere.....: A common side effect of some ssris like zoloft (sertraline) is jitteriness especially on starting the medication. This can seem to worsen symptoms especially in one with anxiety. Can you tell me about hydroxyzine or Xanax (alprazolam) for anxiety while taking wellbutrin for despression?
These are ?'s: that you should be addressing to the physician who is prescribing the Wellbutrin. Also, bupropion is an "activating" antidepressant and may increase anxiety itself, so your doctor needs to know this is a problem for you. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine that is mildly sedating and is ok for very occasional use. Your doctor needs to diagnose WHY you have anxiety to best treat it. I don't like Xanax (alprazolam). ...Read more
Benzodiazepine: Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine that has a fairly short half-life. This can increase the risk of addiction to the medication. There are other benzodiazepines with longer half-lives. I like those better, if I have to use a benzodiazepine with a patient. There are risks with this medication that includes addiction , dependence, some have some constipation, over-sedation, and respiratory suppression. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ask your doctor: While these are similar medicines, they are not the same thing. Alprazolam works a little faster, stops working sooner, and can be somewhat more addictive (although both carry this risk). The bottom line is that you shouldn't substitute any prescription med for another without consulting with the doctor(s) who prescribed them. ...Read more

Can taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for a few months lead to dependency? Dizziness? Palpitations?
No, yes, and no.: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a good drug for allergy and allergic reactions and, very occasionally, for sleep. If your take it continuously to sleep it can lose it's effectiveness and make it difficult to sleep at all without it. Anything with sedative effects can lead to dizziness. Palpitations are less likely. Moderation is a good idea. ...Read more
