Can taking .5mg of ativan (lorazepam) @ bedtime for 1.5 weeks cause anxiety/withdrawl symptoms when stopped. Prior addiction issues. Uncontrolled anxiety issues.

Yes, but this is: not the usual case. Benzo addiction usually takes two weeks or longer of continuous use, and even then, many patients do not suffer withdrawal symptoms, especially rebounding. Sensitive people can develop tolerance and/or dependence sooner, but I'm not sure if a history of addiction is predictive. Visit your prescribing MD for a less abrupt withdrawal protocol. ...Read more

If I'm prescribed Ativan (lorazepam) 0.5 bid prn for post partum anxiety how long can I take it before it's addictive? It's helpful but I'm concerned.

Post partum anxiety: Medications such as Ativan (lorazepam) are addictive in the sense that they are quickly adapted to, and to achieve the same effect, higher doses are required. The general post-partum anxiety is caused in part by sudden drops in estrogen, but unless you are nursing, your regular cycle should resume within 6-8 weeks after delivery. You should consult your healthcare provider to evaluate the need to continue. ...Read more

My anxiety seems to feel better with a muscle relaxant then ativan (lorazepam). Why is that and are muscle relaxants not addictive like benzos are?

Some are: Muscle relaxants come from several different chemical classes.
