Shouldn't be judged: Generally it's no problem to look for a new dr. If you are feeling like it's not a good fit w your current dr. Only thing that might get u a rep as a "problem pt" is drug seeking or trying to order yr dr to give certain treatment instead of taking their advice. ...Read more

It depends: I would just explain to the new doctor That you're seeing him to get a second opinion as to your diagnosis and treatment to see what he would suggest.if your doctor does not ask you what the first opinion was it's up to you as to whether not you want to offer it. His evaluation might be slightly less biased if he doesn't know what the first opinion was but ultimately it probably doesn't matter. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

If a person is a former addict is it necessary to tell a new doctor if not completely comfortable with doing so?
Ideally yes: Not telling your doctor is actually one of the ways people in recovery put themselves at risk of receiving medications that can re-activate the addiction.
