My gestational age is 6weak and fetal age is 4 weak but no foetal pole or heart beat seen in ultrasound. Only smal gestational sac is seen. Pls guide.

Early pregnancy.: During the early stages of pregnancy, the fetal age calculated by your LMP and the fetal age by the ultrasound can differ. This is frequent and can be a normal occurrence. Depending on the size in millimeters of the gestational sac, one might not see a fetal pole in a very early pregnancy. Seek the advice of your OB and they will follow your hormone levels and re-ultrasound you if necessary. ...Read more

I did an abortion but didn't bleed. The u/s showed 5weeks and 6days fetus and no heartbeat. Heartbeat would still be possible at 7 weeks and 4days?

No: If you had surgical (d;c)
abortion the pregnancy was missed. If you used Cytotec (misoprostol) to induce termination it was unsuccessful. If there is a heart beat at 7 weeks and 4 days either the first heartbeat was missed or a new pregnancy was conceived. The abortion unfortunately was unsuccessful. Contact your doctor. ...Read more

Hi I had 3 miscarriages and every time the g sac can be seen but no fetus or heartbeat what could be the reason?

Genetics: Unless there is a problem with the uterus itself, almost always the pregnancy is genetically abnormal. That has been known for a very long time. Some women even at a young age can have that problem. It takes advanced fertility therapy to diagnosis and fix that problem. Although there are some other possibilities likely blood clotting disorders for instance, genetics is the most common explanation. ...Read more

Durning my first ultra sound there is no heartbeat or fetus, I am about at 7 weeks, what's happening? I am 20 years old and very healthy

Hi.: Hi. This clearly is concerning for you. If it was a transvaginal ultrasound, a gestational sac might be visible at 5 weeks of gestation and the yolk sac would be seen shortly thereafter. Using the same type of ultrasound the fetal pole is often seen about 5 ½ to 6 ½ weeks. There might be a fetal heartbeat at that time. If there isn’t a heartbeat and the fetal pole is not seen, the transvaginal ultrasound can be repeated in 3 to 7 days. By week 7, a heartbeat would be expected. You need to ask your doctor for an interpretation of the ultrasound results. Causes could be that the conception dates are off, a miscarriage, a blighted ovum or an ectopic pregnancy. Take care. ...Read more

Sono at 7 week's 4 days there was one fetus and a solid circle which I was told may be a twin that's in a weird position? Only heard 1 heartbeat though

See ObGyn: My impression from your description would be one baby and the "solid circle" is the normal yolk sac where the fetal pole initially comes from and is basically what keeps the baby growing during early pregnancy until the placenta takes over. You need another ultrasound - at 7wks4days if it is twins both babies and both heartbeats should be able to be seen with a translational scan. ...Read more

First ultrasound showed healthy fetus, second ultrasound no fetus or heartbeat. Did I have a miscarriage?

First ultrasound showed healthy fetus, second ultrasound no fetus or heartbeat. Did I have a miscarriage?

Exact answer needs.: Details and review of the images. Given what you describe, and assuming no mistake with the first ultrasound (meaning there was an embryo), then the lack of a viable embryo/fetus would mean a miscarriage during the interval.

Please discuss with your ob/gyn. A blood test of the pregnancy hormone (HCG) can be performed twice a couple of days apart - if decreasing, would confirm pregnancy loss. ...Read more

I used cytotec (misoprostol) to abort but didn't bleed. U/s showed 5 weeks and 6 days fetus but no heartbeat. Will 7 weeks fetus on next ultrasound have heartbeat?

Time will tell: No way to predict. If your dates were consistent with a 5wk6d pregnancy chances are pretty good. If the fetus is alive then there should be definite fetal heart activity visible at 7 weeks especially with a vaginal scan. Hope things work out the way you want. ...Read more

Ultrasound says my fetus is 6 weeks 2 days but my gestational sac is 7 weeks 2 days. Heartbeat is normal. Is everything ok?

Most likely: The most accurate measurement of the fetus is the crown rump length. The gestational sac is like a fluid filled balloon, not a perfect sphere. So the measurement of the sac can vary quite a bit depending on what part was measured. If there is already a fetal heart beat, that is a great sign. Keep your follow up appointments with your OB doctor. ...Read more

2 early MCs, heartbeat seen in 2nd case, no live birth, turner's synd in fetus 2nd case, karyotyping & antiphosopolipid normal. Way fwd? More tests?

Try again: Abnormal chromosome patterns are seen in many of the MC's studied, so this would not be unexpected. If both you and spouse have been karyotyped & normal, you are not carrying a translocation that would doom you both to expect MC's.Consult the clinical genetics department at Toronto Children's if you have not already and see if their is anything more they recommend. ...Read more
