What does new asymmetrical density findings on a mammogram report mean?

Breast tissue

Mammogram
is mostly fat, especially as a woman ages. More dense areas are potentially of concern. Here the breast radilogist is saying they see differences when they compare one side to the other, and that was not the case on a prior study

53 yrs old. Recent digital mammogram informed I have dense breast tissue, negative for CA. Should the results be trusted because of density.

Probably

Digital_mammogram
If you have no added risk factors such as a history of BRCA gene positive, strong family history, prior breast cancer, palpable mass etc. then all you need is annual breast exam/mammogram. Added risk factors may indicate need for MRI and, in that case, you may want to discuss this concept with your doctor.

Will weight loss cause a change in focal density on a mammogram?

Usually not

Losing_weight
Losing weight can reduce the overall fat content of the breast tissue but this will cause a generalized increase in breast density that should be seen on both sides.

Dr. Tina Stein answered:

Please answer: what means ill marginated focal asymmetry of low density in mammogram? should i be worry?

Probably not.

Mammogram
A focal asymmetry is one that is seen in 2 views on a mammogram (the top down view and the side to side). "Low density" means if is more likely to be benign (not malignant). But It must be further evaluated with additional mammographic views, ultrasound and rarely MRI may be required. A six month follow up mammogram may be recommended if the work up determines that it is 97% likely to be benign

Dr. Joshua Garren answered:

I just had a mammogram and they said there no cancer but the breast density; predominantly fatty. what does this mean?

Confusing

Breast
Dense breasts can make it hard to find cancer on mammogram. There is reason to think that people who have dense breasts should have MRIs instead. Fatty breasts, however, are not dense, and are easily imaged on mammogram.

Please tell me, could a woman taking bioidentical hormone replacement have a finding of assymetric density in a mammogram?

Any woman can

Female
develop an asymmetric density. This needs further assessment with diagnostic mammography and possibly ultrasound.

Dr. Barry Rosen answered:

66 years old, mammogram shows tiny subcentimeter density within the right retroareolar breast on CC view. What does this mean?

Abnormal Mammogram

A density or "spot" on a m'gram requires further evaluation, which may include reviewing prior m'gram's, a DIAGNOSTIC m'gram, and/or an ULTRASOUND. This closer look will allow us to categorize this as "probably benign" (requiring 6 month follow-up) or "suspicious" (requiring a biopsy). Hope this helps!

Dr. Andrew L. Doe answered:

My Mammogram had irregular high density with indistinct margins at 1oclock...having soreness also in the same breast (left) soreness has now spread?

Depends

Mammogram
It may just be because you are now aware of the area, and you have been feeling it more now, causing adjacent irritation. Once this density is fully worked up, you should have a good idea of the extent of your breast involved with whatever process this is. As of now, the findings you report are vague and incomplete.

How long is the result of a mammogram?

Not very

Mammogram
It is increasingly the norm that a patient will be given an initial impression of the mammogram study before they leave the imaging facility. A final report to the patient will routinely follow by mail in a few days along with a report to the referring Physician.
