Dr. Richard Wieder answered:

What do I need to do in order to get refractive surgery to correct astigmatism in eye ?

Refractive surgery

Astigmatism
Patients who are interested in refractive surgery for nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism should be screen by a refractive surgeon to determine if they are good candidates. If so, then their refractive errors can routinely be managed by LASIK or PRK.

Dr. Richard Witlin answered:

Is there any of way to correct astigmatism besides refractive surgery?

Not exactly

Refractive_surgery
If you mean to permanently get rid of your astigmatism, the only way is through surgery. If you mean to correct your astigmatism so that you can see clearly, glasses or toric contact lenses will do this. But they do not eliminate the astigmatism, just optically correct for it.

Dr. Ilan Cohen answered:

What are advantages of Refractive surgery prk?

No flap

Refractive_error
The advantages of PRK over LASIK are that it can be performed on thinner corneas as there is no flap to be cut. This also removes some possible complications. The down side is longer visual recovery and some post-operative pain. Consult a refractive specialist in order to see which procedure is best for you.

Is the refractive surgery a risky thing to do?

No

Cornea
unless you are a poor candidate (various reasons). if you have a stable low amount of a simple, regular refractive error with a normal thick cornea and a healthy eye plus informed reasonable expectations, then the risk is small.

Whats disadvatages of having refractive surgery to correct myopia?

A few and minor

Refractive_surgery
Most refractive surgery is LASIK. The results are generally excellent but in a small degree of cases the correction may be a little off due to the biology (individual healing) of the patient and a certain number will find they have longer term eye dryness. All will need reading glasses when they get into their 40's.

Dr. Andrew Shatz answered:

Are there any contacts that are good after refractive surgery?

Why?

Refractive_error
What happened during the refractive surgery to require you to still wear prescription lenses? After corneal surgery, it is a little more tricky (and expensive) to find a comfortable-fitting contact lens. You should first find out what surgical options there are to keep you out of contacts.
