Can GERD trigger asthma like symptoms? Or do you have to have asthma and it just makes it worse? I only seem to have breathing issues duringgerd flare
I got hit in the chest 3 weeks ago in football scrimmage and been having asthma like symptoms with no pain. I have asthma already. What is it
Chest trauma.: Were you assessed at the time? Worst case scenario would be a broken rib. A chest contusion wouldn't last this long, and the trauma shouldn't set off your asthma. At this point, I'd seek a chest X-Ray with a rib series at least. And a lung exam, of course. Rib fractures may not hurt that much after a few days, so it may be there to affect your breathing but may not hurt too much. ...Read more
Benadryl is sedating: Claritin, zyrtec, allegra, or Benadryl can help with allergy and asthma symptoms caused by allergies to respiratory pollens or other airborne allergens. One should work with his doctor to see which combination of over-the-counter allergy meds and prescription asthma inhalers/pills work the best. A patient will learn over time, what medicines to add or increase, depending on how "bad" the air is. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My asthma-like symptoms that developed after swimming in pool cleared up quickly on ventolin/advair. Does this mean they are definitely due to asthma?
Not necessarily: The right trigger will make anyone wheeze. If you have no prior lung issues, then it was likely a reactive bronchospasm which may have had an allergic or chemical trigger since were at pool. Will need a recheck in a couple weeks with pulmonary function test to see if resolved or ongoing impairment. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Asthma-like symptoms for a few days, unable to fully catch breath. Keep yawning, but can't "finish" yawn, if that makes sense. Albuterol not helping.
See M.D.: You may be experiencing an asthma attack. It is important to check with your doctor or urgent care center for further care. If you have a history of asthma, the albuterol two puffs is a standard dose, unless otherwise prescribed. If you have chest tightness and no cardiac problems, the dose can be repeated every 20 minutes x 3 on the way to the doctor's office. ...Read more
Something else: I had already mentioned vocal cord dysfunction from lpr as a potential cause. But you need to rule out other factors too and getting a lung function test would be the least you can do. ...Read more
My 6 year old has had recur. Croup and asthma like symptoms since she was two. Albuterol doesn't seem to help. What can we do? Is it asthma?
May need ENT eval.: Some kids croup easily (with colds) and end up needing treatment for croup (sometimes prednisone) several times. A pediatric ENT doctor may need to check the throat & voice box. Usually, "croupers" outgrow it as they get bigger, and croup doesn't seem to increase their asthma chances. Having repeat "pneumonia" or "bronchitis" is different from croup, and can be signs of asthmatic cough symptoms. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Stress relief: Yes it can. It can mimic heart disease. Try and learn self relaxation techniques, like meditation or self hypnosis. Exercise regularly and avoid stimulants. Get your sleep and eat small frequent meals. Some people get anxiety reactions from certain foods and additives like msg. Your doctor might prescribe an "emergency pill" for anxiety like Propranolol or xanax. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had right shoulder/neck pain for 3 months. Now also having burning chest pain in right side, and asthma-like symptoms. Inhaler helps, but not for long?
Not related: Your right sided pain may come from the cervical spine and i urge you to consult an orthopedist before things get worse. As for your asthma, you need a controller drug (usually an inhaled steroid) on a daily basis and again this needs to be prescribed by your doctor. Talk to your doctor soon before your asthma gets worse. ...Read more
