Yes: Just as aspies tend to have poor physical coordination, modulating the speed, tone and volume of the voice may be difficult. Things that are obvious to others are seldom obvious to the aspie; criticism will only hurt and guidance is often very helpful. This isn't something that junior can handle on his own and a short course of speech therapy may be very helpful. ...Read more

The outdated diagnosis AS include an overall IQ of 70 or above and no significant delays in speech & language at age 3-4. Would a sensory integration disorder be a symptom of Asperger's syndrome? my now 11yr old daughter was diagnosed as having an autism spectrum disorder 1yr ago. however when I'm speaking to others about her symptoms the first comment I hear usually is 'oh
Hi, : Hi, concur with dr. Rinker. Aspergers syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder. Autism, is the most impairing of the autism spectrum disorders. Pervasive developmental disorder comes next and children with aspergers are usually the highest functioning of three. Children with autism spectrum disorder usually have sensory overload which includes tactile stimulation. I recommend talking directly with your daughter's psychiatrist about how best to deal with her tactile sensitivity. One quick option is the use of a camisole that is made of smooth or silky material as an undergarment. It is likely to create less friction against the nipples without highlighting just her nipples. Additionally, pulling bandaids off of skin repeatedly could be quite painful - especially in a child who is already sensitive. I hope this is helpful. Take care. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

No proven benefit: There are no randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies to support the claims of those who provide NFB to older kids & teens with Autistic Spectrum Disorder Level 1 & average or above IQ's. EEG Biofeedback has been used since the 70's. When kids with ASD/ADHD relax & focus on 2-dimensional figures on a screen, a preferred activity, they do well. It doesn't generalize outside the lab. ...Read more

Tremors: You may suffer from Heredofamilial Essential Tremor, which can be accentuated from increased stress. This is relatively easy to control, as several medications may help. Have seen success with alprazolam, primidone, gabapentin, etc. See a neurologist and get diagnosis confirmed and treated. Do make sure that this is not due to a thyroid or medication issue. ...Read more
