Brain meningioma CT scan why kidney function test?

Brain meningioma CT scan why kidney function test?

The dye: With ct scan there is an injection of a dye that could affect the kidneys. The kidney function is checked routinely because the risk of damage from the dye goes high if there is some kidney problems. ...Read more

Do CT scans see brain tumors?

Do CT scans see brain tumors?

They can: The diagnostic yield of increased with use of IV contrast material as some tumors disrupt the so called blood brain barrier affording the contrast the ability to infiltrate from the blood stream into the tumor. Small tumors that have not disrupted the integrity of blood vessels may escape detection on CT especially if the have the same radiographic tissue density as their surrounding tissue. ...Read more

Non contrast CT scan show growing brain tumor, what is wrong?

Non contrast CT scan show growing brain tumor, what is wrong?

Need more evaluation: It is very difficult to diagnose a brain tumor on a non-contrast ct scan. I would recommend getting a brain MRI with contrast (called gadolinium). Mri takes a much better look at the brain than does ct. ...Read more

Can Ct Scan damage brain , effect activity of brain?

Can Ct Scan damage brain , effect activity of brain?

No: The x ray radiation in a CT has no measurable or known effect on neural tissues. 1) dose is way too low and 2) nerves are relatively radioresistant since the cells don't reproduce very fast, if at all. There is a theoretical risk of cataracts and cancer years later, but this is incredibly small esp. for a single scan and controversial anyway. ...Read more

Mri scan and head CT used for cognitive impairment?

Yes: Yes both can be helpful in evaluation of the brain for causes of cognitive impairment although MRI is usually more sensitive. ...Read more

Can MRI with contrast miss brain tumor?

Can MRI with contrast miss brain tumor?

Best test: An MRI with contrast is the best test to detect a brain tumor. If the MRI did not detect a brain tumor then it is likely either too small to see or there is no brain tumor. ...Read more

Can an MRI scan show cognitive impairment?

Can an MRI scan show cognitive impairment?

NO: Mri is an imaging device that is independent of function. Think of your car mechanic and a problem with your car. Lifting the hood and looking is like getting an mri. A good mechanic will want to turn it on and drive around and think carefully about what may be wrong. A good brain mechanic will ask appropriate questions and get appropriate tests and think about what may be wrong. ...Read more

Can CT scan without contrast show brain aneurysm?

Can CT scan without contrast show brain aneurysm?

Unlikely: Ct scan without contrast is unlikely to show an aneurysm unless it is very large and is calcified. A ct angiogram is a better study to visualize an aneurysm. ...Read more

How accurate are CT scans for brain tumors?

How accurate are CT scans for brain tumors?

VARIABLE: Ct scans can often detect an abnormality. Use of contrast will identify additional lesions. However, use of MRI scanning with and without contrast can often more clearly show a brain tumor. ...Read more

Can a CT scan detect brain aneurysms?

Can a CT scan detect brain aneurysms?

CT angiogram: A regular ct scan might detect a large aneurysm with calcium. A test that is designed specifically to look for aneurysms is the ct angiogram. With this test contrast goes into the vessels of the brain. If there is an aneurysm that is larger than 2 mm, it should be detected with this technique. ...Read more

CT Brain shows mass prepontine cistern CPA meningioma. Symptoms consistent with diagnosis. MRI contrast show no lesion. Symptoms persist! Now what?

CT Brain shows mass prepontine cistern CPA meningioma. Symptoms consistent with diagnosis. MRI contrast show no lesion. Symptoms persist! Now what?

Very strange: Not certain what to make of the disparity between the CT scan and the MRI. In some cases, a lesion is so small that it is missed by the artifact created by the thickness of the MRI slices. I would ask your doctor if an MRI of the brainstem with "thin slices" might be reasonable to confirm/refute the CT--with and without contrast. Take care and stay healthy! ...Read more

Could a mri/ct scan detect all brain injurys?

Could a mri/ct scan detect all brain injurys?

Nope: Sometimes you can see evedence of bleeding. With traumatic brain injury sufficient to cause changes on ct typically survival is markedly reduced. Certain types of MRI done at the right time following a brain injury can sometimes show evidence of cerebral contusion. Much of the damage done with traumatic brain injury is microscopic (too small even with diffuse axonal injury) to be seen on mri. ...Read more

Can an EEG (electroencephalogram) detect brain tumors?

Can an EEG (electroencephalogram) detect brain tumors?

No: Eeg can show presence of seizure brain wave activity. These seizure brain activity can be caused by different conditions such as metabolic abnormality, lack of blood supply to brain cells, medication, epilepsy, brain tumor related, etc. It analyzes the brain "function" not the anatomy thus it can't detect brain tumor specifically. Mri needs to be done to detect brain tumors. Discuss with your md. ...Read more

Can CT scan without contrast show any brain tumors?
