Asmanex Twisthaler Medication
I am on asmanex twisthaler now to help with my asthma, but I don't feel like I am getting anything. I have asked and I am doing it right. Not sure?
See below: Asmanex is a maintenance medication, you are not expected to feel like you are getting anything after you take it. This is a common misconception. Is your asthma getting better overall? That is how you measure your response. If not, there are other similar medications that may help you, talk to your doctor. ...Read more
What are the side effects of smz/tmp ds generic for bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds and asmanex twisthaler. Thank you?
Usually none, but...: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) (smz/tmp) is a sulfa antibiotic that can sometimes cause allergic drug reactions on the skin, such as red rashes, hives, or occasionally worse. Stomach upset, with or without diarrhea, can happen with any antibiotic. Asmanex is an inhaled powder, so can cause a cough in a few people very sensitive to the powder. Asmanex is a steroid, so may cause oral thrush if one doesn't rinse and spit. ...Read more
I have asthma and take asmanex daily and albuterol 3-4 times per week before exercise. Should I be worried about this level of medication use?
Controlled asthma: If you require rescue medication (albuterol) more than once or twice a month for breakthrough wheezing, it would be wise to let your doctor know. Otherwise (in most cases) routine use of preventative Rx (inhaled steroids and pre-exercise albuterol) as prescribed are usually safer long term than uncontrolled asthma. Regimens should be reviewed frequently to minimize medication dose and frequency ...Read more

Other common side effects, which may go away over time, are headaches, fatigue, depression, muscle and joint pain, runny nose, sinus infection, and sore throat. If any of these do not go away after a few days, report them to your doctor. ...Read more
Apples and oranges:
You cannot make this type of comparison since we are talking about to different drugs. Asthmanex is an inhaled cortisone while singulair (montelukast) is entirely different. Both are used as controllers but with different outcomes. Talk it over with your physician

I am taking Arnuity 100 1x daily I am wheezing 5/7 days of the week. I have asmanex HFA100 as well, canitry 2xdailydosing? How many puffs per day?
See allergist: If you are wheezing 5/7 days in a week, your asthma is considered poorly controlled. Since increasing the steroid dose may not be the only answer (the response tends to plateau at higher doses), you should consult an allergist ASAP before you end up in the hospital. Aside from medication options, he can counsel you on avoidance measures and possibly allergy shots. ...Read more
I have 2 questions, is the strength of asmanex 110 comparable to Flovent 110. Is Flovent diskus small enough to get into the small airways. Vs HFA?
No and Yes: Though asmanex and flovent are both steroids (cortisone) they do differ in strength.. This does not necessarily make one better than the other. Both agents are designed to get into the lungs to reduce inflammation. Remember, this type of "controller" must be used regularly- not like your "rescue inhaler" which is used only when you are having an attack. ...Read more

I have been taking Nasonex (mometasone) and Asmanex for several months. Can these cause disruptions with the menstrual cycle? (very light?)
Have had trouble sleeping for 6 months. Practice healthy sleep habits. I have asthma, could my inhaler (asmanex) keep me up or more likely poor asthma?
Unlikely: Unless you are taking an unusually high dose, Asmanex is not expected to cause insomnia On the other hand, uncontrolled asthma may awaken you from your sleep. There are also other causes for insomnia- too much caffeine, anxiety, depression, sleep apnea etc. Talk to your doctor about it. ...Read more
Occasionally when allergy is high I get mild SOB and some light wheezing. Asmanex VS. Singulair (montelukast). Which one is better to treat Allergy induced Asthma.
Depends: Montelukast (Singulair (montelukast)) works well in some patients, but inhaled steroids (Asmanex is one of several) are more reliably effective, in general. Singulair (montelukast) has the advantage of helping nasal and eye allergies, too. Always start with a emergency inhaler like albuterol first. All three are prescription; discuss side effects w/ provider. ...Read more
I take singular in the AM and xyzal and asmanex at night. I'm having trouble sleeping. Can I take melatonin? Or OLLY supplement for sleep?
Can asmanex or nasonex (mometasone) make my anxiety/depression condition worse? My doctor and pharmacist are telling me conflicting answers.
Unlikely: While there are side effects to both of these drugs, there do not appear to be common reactions that could worsen your anxiety or depression. Check with your pharmacist or MD re the other drugs you are taking. It is possible there is an interaction with another drug that could cause this effect. Ask them to write down their concerns for you. Consider CBT therapy with a psychologist. Good luck ...Read more

Not sure about less?: If you are taking drugs for a chronic condition like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, then this a difficult question. If you are concerned about how many pills you are taking in a day, maybe combinations or long acting drugs can reduce the number. Either way, this is to be discussed with your physician since these alternatives are not for everyone. Good luck. ...Read more
