Still research: The cure to ALS is still elusive, and other than riluzole, there is no marketed product. Some theoretical benefit to perhaps blocking glutamate, and some doctors add Gabapentin and memantine, but little proof of value. Could consider trying Alpha lipoid acid, phosphatidyl serine, or even n-acetyl cysteine. Would contact major medical school centers such as mayo, johns hopkins to join research. ...Read more

There had been some: Research on lithium but last I checked, it had disappointing results. I am not aware of anything else in the works. I'd consider researching on the internet if there are any clinical trials pending and if she can enroll. My only disclaimer is that if she enrolls in a clinical trial, her treatment will be experiment or she may be in a placebo group. ...Read more

Prescription: Riluzole or Rilutek (riluzole) is available only by prescription, and is only for use in als. It improves quality of life by delaying the need for ventilator support. It is available at any pharmacy. Some pharmacies may have difficulty getting reimbursed for the drug due to insurance denials. My sister is a patient of als, she is taking rilutek (riluzole) tablet. Is there any other treatment of this disease?

Unfortunately no: Due to concern regarding glutamate toxicity, other meds have been added on occasion, such as gabapentin, memantine, Lyrica, (pregabalin) but little proof these provide additional value to the riluzole, which remains the main FDA approved chemical. Just a theoretical long-shot, and not researched at all, but the medical food MetanX and vitamin D-3 supplements might be considered. ...Read more

What is Sudogest prescribed to treat?

What is Sudogest prescribed to treat?

Pseudoehedrine: It is a brand name for a drug which is a nasal decongestant.
