Is it possible for me to put sterile artificial tears on my eyes if I have contacts?

Yes: Many patients do. It helps offset the drying effect contact lenses have on the eyes. Preservative free tears are best, but make sure to use all 8 drops in the tube within 24 hours so that bacteria don't grow in the non-preserved drops. There are also other drops made for wetting contact lenses.

Can patanol (allergy eye) n artificial tears used at same time? What's good brand for allergy eye? Can I use artificialtears (morning) n contact after it?

Can patanol (allergy eye) n artificial tears used at same time? What's good brand for allergy eye? Can I use artificialtears (morning) n contact after it?

Yes: Patanol (olopatadine) is very good for itching, redness and swelling of allergies. Artificial tears are also very useful in allergies, as they wet they eye and help wash out the allergens (dusts, molds, pollens, etc.) that get into the eyes. Use the artificial tears frequently. Allergies and contact lenses do not mix well, and you would be better off wearing glasses if your eyes are really bothering you.

Treat cause: The best way to make your dry eyes better is to find out the cause of your dry eye disease. Environmental exposure, decrease mucin, aqueous, lipid, pharmacologic, hormonal etc. Get an exam to determine the cause so you can get a customized treatment plan.

Are lubricating artificial tears without preservative safe to use?

Are lubricating artificial tears without preservative safe to use?

Yes: Non preserved artificial tears are often recommended for the treatment of dry eyes in individuals who are sensitive to preservatives. There use can be very frequent (every 30' or so) due to low surface irritation side effects. Just as with any eye drop medication, avoid contamination of the dropper tip. Non preserved drops last generally 1 day, & are best refrigerated in between uses to protect.

What is the difference between artificial tears and regular naphcon?

Naphcon = medication: Naphcon drops are vaso-constrictors that constrict the blood vessels on the surface of the eye. They should only be used for a short time. Long term usage can cause rebound vaso-congestion which results in worsening redness in the eyes when the drop is not used. Using it more than a few times a day for a few weeks is likely too long. Artifical tears are better for a lubricant for dry eyes.

Eyelids feel heavy and I'm seeing blurry after using artificial tears?

Tears for what?: Artificial tears are to supplement natural tears when they are deficient. The tears should make the eyes feel better after use. If your eyes feel blurry and heavy, then perhaps they are the wrong thing to use. For what did you think artificial tears were for?

Please advise what is the difference between artificial tears and regular naphcon?

A lot: Artificial tears attempt to replace portiond of the natural tear layer (mucous, aqueous, lipid). Different artificial tear replace these in different amounts. Naphcon is an antihistamine that blocks histamine receptors, reducing allergic symptoms.

It ok to use some kind of rewetting drops or artificial tears? Any better therapy?

Preservative effects: Artificial tears are very safe and don't result in inhibition of your normal tearing. Prolonged use of artificial tears can result in sensitivity to the preservatives causing redness, irritation and burning when dropping them in. Preservative free tears are available. An ophthalmologist can plug your tear drains to preserve your natural tears. Omega 3's are also good for tear production.

Eyelids feel heavy and eyesight got blurry after using a lot of artificial tears. .. How can I cure it? I'm desperate for it to go away

See eye doctor: Beware of the fact that if you use tear preparation containing a preservative more than 4 x daily, you are likely to end up with corneal edema (blurred vision) because of the irritation. If you are using multidose drops, try the single-use kind and see if this helps. If this doesn't, check with your eye doctor (not optometrist).
