I have a rash under my armpits, and it is spreading down to my stomach, I am not wearing deodorant and I've been putting vinegar and water on it. I seems to keep it from itching. What medicine should I be taking?

This : This is difficult to answer without a clinical examination so i would see a dermatologist. Possibilities include fungal infection, yeast, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis (allergic), and other possibilities. See a picture of fungal infection and eczema and treatment options at the link below. I hope that helps! ...Read more

My husband got a really bad rash under his armpits from using old spice deodarant, what should he do? He used the deodarant stick and also the body spray and his rash resembles burns and is very sore and painful.

It : It is possible that this is a contact dermatitis due to allergy from a substance such as fragrance or preservative in the deodorant. I would avoid that deodorant and consider using a mild topical Hydrocortisone cream in the area. If not improved in a few days, consider visiting a dermatologist for diagnosis and to discuss treatment options and possible skin allergy testing. I hope that helps. ...Read more

Rheumatology: While it is possible you might have had a reaction to your deodorant; the presence of a rash, pain and swelling in the joints can also suggest a possible rheumatologist condition, such as lupus for example. So if it does not clear up quickly, you might benefit from a rheumatologist workup. ...Read more

Itchy rashes under armpit, what are possible causes and OTC treatments? I shower daily, don't shave.

Itchy rashes under armpit, what are possible causes and OTC treatments? I shower daily, don't shave.

Dermatitis vs fungal: An 'itchy' rash in the axilla (arm pit) may be a 'contact dermatitis' or a yeast/fungal infection. An otc treatment for dermatitis is Cortaid (hydrocortisone 1%) and the treatment for fungal infection is otc 'anti-fungal' e.g. Lotrimin. Dermatitis may be caused by exposure to chemicals/fragrances in deodorant/anti-perspirants so a hypo-allergenic subsitute may be needed. Get seen if no better. ...Read more

My armpits smell even after a shower and deodorant. What else can I do?

My armpits smell even after a shower and deodorant. What else can I do?

Underarm odor: This usually means that your skin has a bacteria present that is not being killed with normal cleansing. You could try washing each day for 3-4 days with a soap called hibiclens which is over the counter. Don't overdo it or you will dry out your skin or irritate it. If that does not work ask your doctor for a prescription for Clindamycin topical solution and apply it twice a day for a week. ...Read more
