Any MRIs? any pain?: "heaviness" can result from rotator cuff injuries. Coordination problems can also mimic heaviness and can result from central nervous system issues. Obviously problems like this can range from something completely benign, to something significant like ms. The first thing: one thinks about when there localized (just in one spot) swelling is some type of local inflammatory reaction due to a local infection from an infected cut, scrape, insect bite? Swelling could also result for injury/trauma to the area. Rarely would a blood vessel/clot problem be the cause. Especially concerning if associated redness and heat. Need exam: Your symptoms suggest cubital tunnel syndrome ( ulnar nerve entrapment @ elbow) but a thorough history and physical exam is required to confirm. Supraspinatus( rotator cuff) injuries can occasionally present as you describe but this would be unusual. Specific: Is the mass on the arm between the shoulder and elbow? Is it getting bigger and over how long a time? Does it pulsate? Does it move with the shoulder or elbow? Radiculopathy: Pain that radiates down the arm can reflect a cervical radiculopathy (shooting pains due to a pinched nerve in the cervical spine). Many patients will have no associated neck pain. Not with treatment.: This sounds like a pinched nerve in the neck which is most likely the cause of your symptoms. You'll need to get it confirmed by nerve tests by a neurologist. It could be a peripheral nerve lesion (uncommon though) like a carpal or cubital t syndrome with retrograde radiation. The nerve test will help greatly. You might need surgery to decompress it, if nothing helps. ...Read more
