The vaccine is injected directly into the muscle and irritates it temporarily and mildly. Many places offer an education sheet to keep for reference when vaccines are administered. It explains possible side effects and if there should concern about any of them. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
GOOD!!!!: That is a good thing! that means the shot is working! in fact, many shots have something called an adjuvant in them. An adjuvants job is only to dram more immune response to the site of the shot. Immune response = swelling, redness, pain and itching. The flu shot is the same. So, congrats, your shot worked! cellulitis after shots is rare, but if red extends past a joint or you have pus get checked. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Tender, swollen, red, lymph node under arm. Opposite arm then received flu shot in 2 days ago. Related?

That's OK: Every vaccine is intended to get your immune system's undivided attention. When it does, you get a little inflammation at the site (a sign the vaccine is doing its job), and sometimes that inflammation can precicipitate an itch. If there is a little redness, that's ok, a lot of redness, or a spreading rash, should probably get you to see your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Tetanus shots hurt: Some shots hurt the arm more than others. Tetanus is known to be a bad one for pain. As long as you can move your arm and aren't in extreme pain it's probably okay. You need to be assessed immediately if not. Call your doctor if you aren't sure. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Got cut with a dirty blade desinfected with KMnO4.No local signs of inflamation. Last date of tetanus shot 17.11.2005. Shoul get tetanus shot again ?
Yes: Since it has been more than 5 years since your last booster, you should get one even though there are no signs of infection/inflammation. Make sure that you get a Tdap, as we now know you need pertussis boost as well and you would not have gotten that back in 2005. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Reaction to vaccine: Not unusual. As long as this gets better and disappears within a few days you should be fine. This is probably a lymph node enlarging in reaction to the vaccine stimulus, and doing its job appropriately. If it does not get better or seems worse then get to a doctor ASAP. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Got stuck in the fore arm with a rusty nail , last tetanus shot 5-6 yrs ago, arm hurts /swollan/redish around cut.can I wait till morning to see how i?
See below.: Tetanus shot is probably good although would certainly not hurt to get another. Major concern is acute infection with much more common organisms such as staph and strep. Anytime there is rapidly expanding or advancing redness, pain, swelling and / or fever you need to see a doc ASAP to be treated or closely monitored. If this is not the case then waiting a few hours to start treatment is OK. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
