Intrinsic shoulder : Joint problem, such as rotator cuff tear or frozen shoulder joint may be present. The numbness could be indeed "shoulder hand syndrome" or maybe brachial plexus issue associated with the shoulder pain. Perhaps a parsonage turner syndrome or even a thoracic outlet syndrome if symptoms worsen on arm elevation. However, sounds like a mix of joint and plexus. See orthopedic surgeon first. ...Read more

Get examined!: At age 55 your most common cause for this pain would still be 'impingement' ( or bursitis). Labral tears causing this pain are less likely unless associated with the biceps 'anchor'( SLAP) lesions -- but less likely in isolation in your age group.Osteoarthritis can cause pain in this distribution . AC joint arthritis can also cause pain when rotating arm towards chest ( adduction). See an ORS! GL! ...Read more
