May need EMG: Nerves control sensation and strength, and the nerve distribution to different parts of the hand/fingers originate from the neck but can be compressed at different points i.e wrist, elbow, shoulder. An EMG/NCV can determine if you have carpal tunnel syndrome or radiculopathy from the neck. ...Read more

No more to add: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you and you have already seen two doctors, so there is little that can be added in this forum.

What nerve runs from back of skull into left eye, down left side of face, into left shoulder, arm and fingers. Not pain more numb/tickle sensation?

What nerve runs from back of skull into left eye, down left side of face, into left shoulder, arm and fingers. Not pain more numb/tickle sensation?

None does all this: The occipital nerve emanates at the back of the neck, travels up the back of the skull above the ear to the side of the skull. The supraorbital nerve is above the eye. The facial nerve doesn't extend to the shoulder or arm or fingers. Sensation in the arm and hand stems from a nerve root at the neck or from the brain(cortex) itself. A neurologist can advise you best. ...Read more

I have numbness left arm/fingers leg, with pain in same leg where previously broken. Feels like left side is almost asleep...What should I do.?

Get a diagnosis: Left sided numbness could be as simple as referred numbness from myofascial pain (which is cause by muscle imbalances), or even carpal tunnel in the left wrist, but could also be as serious as nerve damage from your fracture, or even a stroke. I'd recommend seeing a physiatrist or neurologist to get a clear diagnosis. Then you can target an appropriate treatment. ...Read more

10 mos intermittent left shoulder blade pain. Pain also in arm down to fingers. Back pain can sometimes be eased by deep breath. What is this?

Could be impingement: You may have some inflamed muscles in the shoulder blade region and even into the shoulder, which might also be in spasm, causing some of that pain. With inflammation, sometimes nerves can get pinched and impinged, causing you to have referred pain down your arm and fingers. You can try heat and ice, as well as Ibuprofen but may need to see your doc for physical therapy referral and/or imaging. ...Read more

29yrs old with Pain in my left arm, hand &fingers also sharp pain on left side of chest. What else could it be besides Costochondritis?

To ER: Other than cardiac disease which will worsen with exertion and also cause shortness of breath, it could be radicular pain from a cervical level. If you haven't been evaluated by a physician, you should be seen ASAP. Sharp chest pain isn't typical for cardiac disease, but women have atypical symptoms. Even young people can have heart disease. Why take a chance? ...Read more

What causes 10 mos intermittent left shoulder blade pain?Pain also in arm down to fingers.Back pain sometimes eased by deep breath.fear cardiac.

Not cardiac: There's nothing about your description that suggests heart disease. I would be concerned about cervical disk disease with neural impingement causing that distribution & duration of pain. An MRI would rule it in or out. ...Read more
