Are There Lymph Nodes In The Back Of Your Neck
Yes, Nearby: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well.

Lymph nodes: Yes there are lymph nodes in the back of neck and head. These are normally not palpable unless there is an infection in the scalp or part of neck lymph glands are like filters and are spread all over the body and if parts of body get infected the infection can spread in the nodes. So same thing can happen in the nodes in back of head and neck.

The lymph nodes on the back of my neck seem to swell and hurt when my allergies flare up. Could allergies cause this and how can I relieve it?
Inflammation: Lymph nodes react to inflammation at times by swelling and tenderness. As long as they recede this is a benign situation. It's probable that inflammation of the nose and throat during allergic reactions are causing this in your case. Avoiding specific allergens and taking antihistamines, decongestants and tylenol (acetaminophen) may help.
If I had a melanoma on the back of my neck and it spread, which specific type of neck lymph nodes would it likely first spread to?
Sentinel node: If surgical exploration is needed to look for lymph node draining the site of the lesion, a dye or radioactive isotope is injected at the site of the lesion and the dye or radioactivity is tracked to identify the first lymph node where the marker ends up.
7 y.o has lymph nodes to back of neck, enlarged since age 2. Doesn't hurt, not red, moves under skin. Child is thin but no wt. Loss. Need work up?
Needs follow up.: Cervical lymph nodes (in the neck) are common in children. They can persist for very long periods of time. Most important is that your pediatrician knows about them and re-examines them periodically (remind him or her from time to time). They can be removed surgically or biopsied but this is not usually necessary.
How many lymph nodes can you feel in back of 2 yo head? I feel clusters at base of neck. Not swollen but 4-5. 1 is tiny like sand but mobile. Normal?
Likely normal: We have many lymph nodes in our neck. They are more noticeable (easly palpable) in thin patients and in patients who have an active infection or inflammation. If they are small (pea-sized) and mobile, they are likely normal. If it persists, becomes tender, or enlarges, see you pediatrician. Also if it seems the l ymph nodes are merging into 1 mass, see your pediatrician.See 1 more doctor answer
Possibly: Lymph nodes may enlarge as a result of a number of problems, not just cancer. You should see your physician soon for further evaluation and proper diagnosis. It may just be a manifestation of an infection that requires antibiotics to clear up. But see your doctor.
Not likely: Allergy to shampoo is of the contact type, and will therefore affect the skin long before it affects the lymph nodes. If you don't have a significant rash all over your scalp (the areas that come into contact with the shampoo), the swollen lymph nodes are probably not related to the shampoo.See 1 more doctor answer

I have a chain of palpable cervical lymph nodes from back of my neck to 2 inches from clavicle. Some hurt some don't. Mostly all movable. What is this?
Many: Most of the time, they are likely from an infection at that side of the body above the neck area (tonsil, sinus gum, teeth etc) But if the node sizes get larger or the enlargement continues for more than 2 weeks, be sure to check with your doctor.

Lymph nodes in neck for over a year. Biopsy came back normal. New lymph node found back of thigh just above knee. What could be wrong?
Get checked again: It may take more than one biopsy to establish the diagnosis. You will likely need another biopsy on the newly developed node to find out the cause.
